We’re bringing the beach vibes into the therapy room with fun, functional activities targeting speech sounds, language, AAC, social communication, and more. Learning feels a little sunnier when seashells and beach balls are involved! ☀️

This week in speech… we make lemonade AND target speech therapy goals! 🍋

Our lemonade activity will help us work on so much more than just a tasty treat. We’ll be targeting sequencing, following directions, vocabulary, describing, requesting, commenting, articulation practice, turn-taking, social communication, and even sensory exploration.

Functional activities like this help children practice communication in a meaningful, hands-on way. Speech therapy can be fun, practical, and delicious! 🍋🥤

Wondering if your child’s speech sounds are on track? ☀️ Summer is a great time to boost speech clarity before the next school year begins!

Children can develop speech sounds before the ages shown on this chart, and many sounds develop across a range of time. However, if your child has not developed a sound by the end of the age listed, their speech sound development may be delayed and could benefit from support from a Speech-Language Pathologist.

Clear speech helps children feel more confident when talking with family, friends, teachers, and classmates. If others often have difficulty understanding your child, or your child becomes frustrated when trying to communicate, articulation therapy can help.

📚 Research from Crowe and McLeod shows that speech sound acquisition follows developmental patterns, but individual children may vary. Their U.S. review was based on 15 studies including 18,907 English-speaking children, and sound mastery was reported using 50%, 75%, and 90% acquisition criteria.
