The heart of a child therapist holds more than most people realize. đź©·
It takes courage to sit with a child’s pain, patience to trust a process that doesn’t happen overnight, and the strength to carry stories that are never yours to keep.
But it also holds so much joy, the curiosity, the playfulness, the tiny breakthroughs that remind you why you do this work.

If you’re a child therapist, which one resonates with you most? 👇

“Regulation is a skill, not a character trait. Anxious kids need coaching, not criticism.”

Tools like this can be so powerful 🙏🏻 They give kids a concrete tangible way to practice calming their own nervous system. This week’s therapy tip shows you exactly how and why to use these tools. 🤍🪻

“With man this is impossible, but with God all things are possible.”
Matthew 19:26

We often think we should fix our problems, heal our families, control outcomes, prevent all things, never fail, and carry everyone’s emotions. But, we don’t realize that we are stepping into a role that belongs to God. In therapy we help you step out of a role of false omnipotence, and reframe your thinking, and teach to leave it to the only one 👆🙌🏻 who can.

Supporting children’s emotional health can happen in small, everyday moments at home.

Here are a few ways parents can help:

• Communication skills – Practice active listening. Make eye contact, nod, reflect back what you hear, and try saying: “It sounds like…”

• Emotional awareness – Create simple check-ins, like a daily “rose and thorn” (the best and hardest parts of the day).

• Coping strategies – Encourage movement and physical outlets such as walks, bike rides, or dancing to help release big feelings.

• Positive self-talk – Help children replace negative thoughts with supportive ones:
“I can try again.”
“Mistakes help me learn.”
“This is hard, but I can handle it.”
Model it too: “I made a mistake, but I can fix it.”

• Naming feelings – Show them how to pause and identify emotions:
“I’m feeling overwhelmed right now, so I’m going to take a few deep breaths.”

• Create a calm-down routine – Build a personal reset plan together:
quiet corner, soft music, drawing/coloring, or hugging a stuffed animal.

Sometimes families also benefit from additional support from a therapist or clinician who works with children.

This post is for general education and support and is not a substitute for therapy.

Morning affirmations can be surprisingly powerful for teens—especially because mornings set the emotional “tone” for the whole day. Here’s why they help 👇

1. They shape self-talk early
Teens’ brains are still wiring how they talk to themselves. Starting the day with a positive, realistic thought (“I can handle today” vs. “I’m terrible at everything”) helps interrupt negative loops before school stress kicks in.
2. They build confidence when identity is forming
Adolescence is peak Who am I? season. Affirmations reinforce healthy beliefs about worth, abilities, and values at a time when teens are extra sensitive to comparison and judgment.
3. They reduce stress and anxiety
Morning affirmations can calm the nervous system. Feeling grounded and capable right after waking up makes challenges feel more manageable instead of overwhelming.
4. They improve focus and motivation
When teens remind themselves of goals or strengths (“I try my best,” “I can learn from mistakes”), they’re more likely to stay engaged and bounce back from setbacks during the day.
5. They counter social and academic pressure
Teens absorb a lot of external noise—from social media, grades, peers. Affirmations act like a mental filter, helping them anchor to their values instead of outside pressure.
6. They’re a small habit with big impact
Affirmations take 30–60 seconds but can quietly build resilience over time. Consistency matters more than perfection.
đź’ˇ Important note: The best affirmations for teens are realistic and personal, not cheesy or forced.
“I’m growing and learning” works better than “I’m perfect and amazing.”

Therapy isn’t just talking, it’s practicing. It’s a judgment-free zone where kids can try new responses, explore different outcomes, and build the skills they’ll use in the long run 🤍
