One of the most common questions we hear is, "How long will it take to get pregnant after my first fertility appointment?" While every journey is unique, fertility treatment is a process that begins with understanding your reproductive health.

If you're hoping to grow your family by a certain time of year, don't wait until the last minute. Starting your fertility evaluation early gives you the best opportunity to understand your options and create a plan that fits your goals.

You’re born with all the eggs you’ll ever have. Over time, that number naturally decreases, and egg quality gradually declines as part of the normal aging process. This happens whether or not someone uses birth control.

Birth control pills don’t “use up” eggs. Instead, they work by temporarily turning off ovulation through hormones that signal the brain to pause egg release. The eggs that would have been recruited during that cycle simply remain in the ovaries and are not damaged or lost.

Ovarian reserve—often measured by markers like AMH or antral follicle count—is primarily influenced by age and genetics, not contraception. Large studies have shown that hormonal birth control does not permanently lower these markers or speed up menopause. In some cases, birth control can even mask true reserve levels temporarily, which is why fertility testing is usually done after stopping the pill.

Once birth control is discontinued, the hormonal signals resume, ovulation returns, and the ovaries continue along their natural timeline.

The confusion often comes from timing: many people stop birth control in their 30s to try to conceive and notice fertility challenges. But this likely reflects age-related changes, not damage caused by the pill.

💛 Baby Alumni Spotlight 💛

This beautiful family began their journey with RRFC around 2010, and after years of hope and perseverance, welcomed twins Charlotte and Nathan in 2014.

Today, those same little miracles have just completed elementary school and the IB Primary Years Program with academic distinctions, both earning the President’s Education Award. Charlotte will be heading into a magnet program focused on visual arts, while Nathan will pursue STEM. 🎓💛

From beginning their story with us to watching them grow into bright, accomplished students, we are so honored to celebrate this incredible milestone with their families.

Are you one of our RRFC alumni families? We'd love to hear what your little miracles are up to today. Share success stories, milestones, and achievements with us. Seeing our babies grow up is one of the highlights of what we do. 💛
