Meet protein, your priority food after bariatric surgery!

A smaller stomach pouch requires smaller portions. Smaller portions mean every bite has to work harder.

The best thing to do is pack it with protein. Protein supports healing, muscle maintenance, and fullness. Think simple defaults: eggs, Greek yogurt if tolerated, fish, poultry, beans as appropriate, or team-approved shakes.

Pack your routine before your suitcase.

Travel days are easier with protein options, water reminders, vitamins, medication lists, and a few restaurant backup choices.

Planning does not make the trip less fun. It keeps decisions from piling up when you are tired or hungry.

Thinking about intermittent fasting after weight loss surgery? 🤔

Honestly, right after surgery may not be the best time to start. Post bariatric surgery, your body has very specific needs – getting enough protein and nutrients is a big priority. I suggest following your program’s recommendations to ensure that your nutritional needs are met and your body heals well.

But a few years out, intermittent fasting can actually be a great tool to incorporate once your body has adjusted, you’ve built solid habits, and your relationship with food is in a good place.

The key is just not jumping into it too soon and discussing it with your doctor or dietitian before you start. What works for someone else might not work for you.

Weight loss surgery isn’t a sprint, it’s a marathon.

If the scale has been creeping up and you’ve been putting off that conversation with your doctor or your dietitian, this is your sign to get back on your feet.

Tough love isn’t about making you feel bad. It’s about not letting a small slip up become a much bigger one. During your weight loss journey, it’s important to surround yourself with the type of people who will support you long after the surgery is over. Even if the truth is a little hard to hear.

Do you feel like weight loss has been impossible, even with exercise and a new diet? It could be a “leaky gut”.

When your gut lining becomes more prone to sneaking in substances like toxins and microbes that shouldn't be there, your body panics and triggers inflammation to deal with it.

A damaged gut messes with your hunger hormones, throws your blood sugar all over the place, and keeps your body in a constant state of stress.
The fix isn't complicated but it does require consistency.

That looks like eating real food and less processed junk. Stress management, hydration, and lifestyle habits that aren’t only good for you but good for your gut, too.

Physical activity doesn’t need to be fancy.

Just give me a pair of good running shoes and a place to go. But if you’re planning on starting a new activity make sure to check in with your doctor to make sure it is safe for you!

When people think of inflammation, they immediately picture a swollen ankle or a cut. Something you can see and feel.

Chronic inflammation is different. It's the kind that quietly sits there, invisible, causing havoc in your body you don’t notice… at least, not right away.

The effects are gradual and it's messing with your weight loss progress more than you probably realize. Studies have shown that chronic inflammation doesn't just show up because of metabolic issues, it actively causes them. Most people never deal with it because they don't even know it's there.
