Why does my finger click and catch? The most common reason is a trigger finger. This is a form of tendonitis where the tendons (which act like ropes) are getting stuck or caught up through tight passageways in the hand referred to as tunnels or pulleys. These are exceptionally painful! The treatment is usually a steroid injection which can make the triggering go away in the majority of people. If one or two injections are not successful, a procedure performed under local anesthesia can ultimately make the problem go away for good.

This is a 30 year old male who was in a motorcycle accident and sustained a left perilunate dislocation with associated distal radial fracture. He was taken to the OR emergently for carpal tunnel release, reduction of his wrist dislocation with ligament repair and fragment specific fixation of his complex wrist fracture. He did very well overall. At 3 months he went back to motor cycle riding and normal activities. His fracture healed and he has minimal pain.

On May 6th 2018, I went to Da Nang Vietnam on a volunteer mission. Education was the primary goal of the trip. The team consisted of two hand surgeons, three residents, and a translator. We spent one week in Vietnam and it was busy to say the least! On Monday, we saw over 100 patients who travelled from near and far to be evaluated. On Tuesday thru Friday we operated. In total, we performed 30 surgeries in 4 days! Hopefully, we left behind a lifetime's worth of knowledge on how to take care of these patients in the future. Though, at the end of the day, I feel that the Vietnamese surgeons taught me much more than I could have ever imagined.
