Do I need orthopedic surgery?

If you’re dealing with ongoing joint pain, a sports injury that isn’t healing, or knee or shoulder pain that keeps affecting your daily activities, you may be wondering whether it’s time to see an orthopedic surgeon.

The answer isn’t always surgery.

An orthopedic surgical evaluation may be appropriate when:

• Pain continues despite appropriate nonsurgical treatment
• An injury isn’t improving as expected
• Pain or limited movement affects work, exercise, sports, or everyday activities
• You’re experiencing ongoing weakness, instability, or loss of function
• You’ve been told surgery may be an option and want to better understand your choices

Seeing an orthopedic surgeon doesn’t mean you’re committing to surgery. The goal is to understand what’s causing your symptoms, review your treatment options, and determine whether surgery is truly the right next step.

If surgery is recommended, care should also include preparing your body for the procedure and creating a thoughtful recovery and rehabilitation plan afterward.

Rest and ice is not a recovery plan. It is a starting point.

Too many athletes treat recovery like it ends there.

Calm the symptoms. Wait it out. Hope the body figures the rest out.

But your sport does not care that your pain is gone.

It cares whether you can cut. Sprint. Lift. Compete at full speed with full confidence.

That gap between feeling better and performing betteris where most recoveries fall short.

The difference is a targeted, performance-based recovery strategy built around how your body actually moves and what your sport actually demands.

Not every injury needs the same plan.
Not every athlete should settle for outdated methods when better options exist.

Watch to the end for exclusive recovery tips.
