Meet Jonathan!

Jonathan has been part of the Valley Hospital family since the beginning of his nursing career, starting in Med Surg before taking on the rewarding role of preceptor, helping guide and support new nurses as they begin their own journeys. As a first-generation college student, Jonathan understands the challenges that come with transitioning from nursing school to practice, which inspired him to give back by mentoring the next generation of nurses in the Las Vegas Valley.

Now, Jonathan is taking the next step in his career as he transitions to the SICU. He credits his time in Med Surg with helping him build a strong foundation in patient assessment, recognizing changes in a patient's condition, and responding during critical moments. Just as importantly, it taught him the value of teamwork and collaboration, skills he will carry with him into critical care.

Thank you, Jonathan, for your dedication to our patients, your commitment to mentoring future nurses, and your passion for continued growth. We're excited to see all you'll accomplish in the SICU!

Congratulations to our September Surgeon of the Month, Dr. John Thalgott!

For more than 55 years, Dr. Thalgott has been part of the Valley Hospital story. Beginning his journey here in 1971 as a surgical tech and going on to build a distinguished career as an orthopedic spine surgeon, his dedication to patients, colleagues and our hospital has left a lasting impact.

Known by staff as one of the most thoughtful surgeons, Dr. Thalgott combines exceptional expertise with genuine compassion. From serving as a guest surgeon at the Vatican to helping countless patients improve their quality of life, his remarkable career is one worth celebrating.

For the past seven years, Raul has been a valued member of the Valley Hospital team as a Mental Health Tech, building meaningful connections with patients while developing the skills that would support his next professional chapter.

With the help of Valley Hospital's tuition assistance program and the encouragement of his colleagues and mentors, Raul has continued to grow throughout his academic journey. He credits his experience as a Mental Health Tech with teaching him patience, communication, teamwork, and patient safety, lessons he carries with him as he begins his role as a Registered Nurse.

As part of our October Breast Cancer Surgeon Series, we're proud to spotlight Dr. Matthew Miller of Optum Cancer Care. Dr. Miller chose breast surgery because it allows him to combine precise surgical care with compassionate, long-term patient relationships.

Outside of work, you'll find him spending time outdoors, gardening, traveling, walking his Cavapoo, Chester, and working on home projects.

His message to patients: "Prioritize your routine screenings and trust your instincts when it comes to your own body. Early detection saves lives, and you never have to navigate a diagnosis alone."
