Your mental health during fertility treatment and pregnancy is not optional. It’s essential for both you and your baby.
A common misconception is that medications for depression, anxiety, or bipolar disorder are automatically unsafe; leading many pregnant persons to stop their meds abruptly. This can make the TTC journey, pregnancy, and postpartum period much harder than necessary.
Instead of relying on online advice or stigma-driven fears, talk to your care team. Your OB, mental health provider, fertility doctor or primary doctor can guide you through a proper risk-benefit assessment and help you make the safest decision.
Here’s what we know:
👉🏾 Up to 13% of women experience depression during pregnancy or postpartum
👉🏾 Untreated mental health conditions in the mother can impact a child’s emotional development
👉🏾 Effects can extend into childhood, including increased risk of ADHD in children of mothers whose anxiety or depression was untreated during pregnancy
Taking care of your mental health is part of taking care of your baby.
