Message from the Chair: Access to Healthcare

Dear Friend,

We have become a nation of superior wealth in comparison to our brethren, but we have yet to gain superior wisdom or superior compassion. Our prosperity, fortunate as it may be, has not yet led to an end to hunger, homelessness, or illness. Even in this time of depression, among us there is enough wealth and resources to affect much chan

ge, to rid the world of hunger, homelessness and minister to all those who are ill. The change needs to start here, in our backyard, our community. Across the world is an economic depression, which is strongly affecting the U.S.A and our hometown, Las Vegas. Although there is this depression, we must never give let go of our dream, we still have the resources necessary to enable the American dream, the dream that we can cure cancer and Alzheimer's and rid our community of the hunger, homelessness and to minister to all those who are ill. I have sworn before God and you to provide access to healthcare to many Nevadans who are suffering. United, with an army of volunteers and with the generous financial support from the blessed people in our community this will be a reality. This is not a time to back off or slack off because of the economic crisis. On the contrary, this is a time to speed up our efforts to alleviate the suffering of our fellow human beings. To do otherwise will be fatal to many Nevadans. Should we over look the urgency of this moment we will continue to count at least one Nevadan a day who dies from lack of healthcare. Not to mention, so many children and other adults who continue to suffer from medical and mental illness who have been neglected. I have a dream that one day and that day is now we will all rise up and extend a helping hand to our neighbors in need. That we will provide much needed food, shelter and healthcare to our brothers and sisters in this community in crisis. I have a dream that VMSN will have a flagship in the down town area that will provide the much needed healthcare and much needed hope for many of our citizens. I have a dream that our children will be immunized, that those with hypertension will have much needed medications to prevent illness and stroke, that diabetics will not go into a needless coma, that our asthmatics will have the breathe of life. I have a dream that the current statistic of one out of ten teenagers attempting su***de will be reduced to none. I have a dream that just because someone in Nevada is without a job or without friends, without health insurance, without welfare that they will have a medical home at VMSN to minister to their medical, dental, and mental health care needs. I invite you all to share our dream, to join our exciting adventure and to make it a reality. I invite you to tour Paradise Clinic and see how this dream is coming true. We appreciate your help through volunteerism and donations. I invite you to go to our website, VMSN.org and sign up to volunteer or donate. Please visit us on our website at VMSN.org and sign up on our volunteer’s page or call us at 967-0530. Sincerely,

Florence Jameson and all our volunteers at VMSN

As part of their clinical rotation at Volunteers in Medicine of Southern Nevada, NURS 350 students presented a wonderful seminar on how to "Beat the Heat" in these extreme Vegas temperatures. Thank you for your partnership, UNLV School of Nursing! Our patients and staff are so grateful for your care. ❤️🩺🙏🌞

Lacey Frantz had the pleasure of giving a tour of Volunteers in Medicine of Southern Nevada MSN to Tameka Henry and Bianca Garcia of the Obodo Collective. They offer strategic solutions for immediate community problems, funding opportunities for service providers and grassroots leaders, and support for the people of these beautiful neighborhoods who have long been overlooked, marginalized, and oppressed. 🩷

We’re proud to have Volunteers in Medicine of Southern Nevada as one of Project Marilyn’s Period Partner Agencies.

VMSN provides quality healthcare and support to Southern Nevadans who don’t have access to healthcare, serving people who can too easily fall through the cracks of our healthcare system.

And we’re proud to play a small part in that mission.

Because access to healthcare is about more than seeing a doctor. It’s about dignity, wellness and having the basic things you need to take care of yourself.

That includes period products.

We’re grateful to the team at for the work they do every day and for making sure the people they serve have access to period supplies when they need them.

Healthcare + dignity + period supplies = a pretty powerful partnership.

Thank you, Volunteers in Medicine, for letting us play a part in your greater mission. PERIOD.

🎉Congratulations to the incoming Kirk Kerkorian School of Medicine at UNLV Class of 2030!👏 We're especially excited to celebrate that 10 of our VMSN volunteers have been accepted into this incredible incoming class. We couldn't be prouder of all of our former volunteers and are grateful to have played a small part in their journeys to medical school.

As our volunteer scribe trainer and incoming medical student, My Tam, shared: "I am incredibly proud to volunteer at VMSN and grateful for the clinical exposure and mentorship it provides. My experiences have not only prepared me for medical school but have also shaped the compassionate, patient-centered physician I aspire to become."

Congratulations to My Tam and every member of the Class of 2030! We can't wait to see the impact you'll make on the future of healthcare. 💙🩺
