🎙️🔥 THE GIRLS ARE BACK TOGETHER!

It's been a hot minute since we've recorded just the two of us, and damn, it feels good! 😂💗

When we started this podcast, we had NO idea practically everyone we invited would say YES! 🤯 We've had so many incredible guests that some days we're recording 2–3 episodes back-to-back. Apparently, we have ZERO chill. 🤣

And to our amazing guests still waiting for their episodes to drop, WE SEE YOU! 😂 We promise they're coming! We never wanted anyone waiting months, but here we are, victims of our own enthusiasm. 🤦‍♀️❤️

Seriously, we're SO grateful for every single one of you!

BUT TODAY? IT'S JUST US, AND WE'RE TALKING STANDARD OF CARE! 🦷🔥

Are we raising the bar or just getting really comfortable doing things the way they've always been done? 👀

You know us. Big opinions, uncomfortable questions, a little sarcasm, and probably a few feathers ruffled. 😏

LET'S GET UNHINGED! 🎙️🔥

👇 Are we meeting the standard of care, or is it time to raise it?

SALIVA TESTING:
A CLOSER LOOK AT YOUR ORAL HEALTH

Your saliva can reveal helpful information about your oral health.

Depending on the test, saliva testing may measure selected bacteria associated with gum disease, saliva acidity, or buffering ability.

It can provide another piece of the puzzle—especially if you experience:

• Bleeding gums
• Recurring cavities
• Dry mouth
• Persistent bad breath

Ask your dental provider:

“Would saliva testing add useful information to my care—and how would the results change my treatment?”

Saliva testing complements a thorough dental exam, gum measurements, health history, and appropriate X-rays. Results should always be interpreted in context.

More information can support more personalized care.

Your mouth is part of your body. Let’s treat it that way.

Black floss makes pale plaque and trapped debris easier to SEE. Textured, multifilament floss can help lift that sticky buildup when you hug each tooth but your technique matters more than the color!

Only brushing? You’re missing the tight spaces between teeth. Think 3 of 5 surfaces, two sides still need attention.

Skipped a few days? Floss, then give that strand a sniff. 🤢 That stink can come from bacteria breaking down trapped food and producing foul-smelling compounds. Yes… that was sitting between your teeth.

Seeing gunk is feedback not proof you removed it all. Curve your floss into a C, gently glide just beneath the gumline, and clean BOTH teeth bordering each space. Repeat daily.

Your toothbrush needs a teammate.

What if your next “aha!” moment is waiting outside the room you work in every day?

A course that challenges an old assumption. A conference conversation that opens a new door. A different perspective that helps you ask a better question.

That’s why continuing education matters.

When we love our field, it’s easy to get comfortable in what we already know. But professional growth asks us to stay curious, examine the evidence, and stretch beyond our familiar routines.

You might discover a new clinical interest, a mentor, or a career possibility you didn’t even know existed. You won’t know what sparks your curiosity until you give yourself room to explore.

That’s part of what has me excited for The Myosphere conference: the questions I’ll bring, the ideas I’ll explore, and the perspectives that might challenge my own.

And for my clients wondering why I keep taking courses and attending conferences? Because your care deserves a clinician who keeps learning. I want to keep refining how I assess, educate, and collaborate and thoughtfully bring relevant learning into our work together.

Fellow clinicians: what’s the last thing you learned that made you rethink something you do every day? 👇

I’m SO excited for The MyoSphere Symposium, April 9–10, 2027—right here in my hometown! Two days of learning, connecting, and casually fangirling over some of my favorite myofunctional therapists? Yes, please!

The lineup includes my friend Angie Lehman of Oral Myofunctional Therapy of York in York, Pennsylvania! We had the pleasure of interviewing her on podcast, and her positivity, encouragement, and love for this work were contagious.

I love challenging myself to keep learning and become a better clinician. Never stop growing. Never settle into “I already know enough.” Our patients deserve our curiosity and our commitment to improving.

And to my fellow myofunctional therapists: let’s keep lifting each other up. There are SO many people, of all ages and in all walks of life, who need our help. Sharing knowledge, supporting one another, and building a stronger community helps us reach them. 🫶

I can’t wait to learn, laugh, and grow with you!

Hot wings. A dentist. Questionable decisions. 😂

Honestly, what could possibly go wrong?

Sean… consider this your official invitation. 👀

Let’s make it happen.

You do not have to stay where you are consistently made to feel small, unwanted, or undervalued.

You can love your patients and still choose to leave.
You can be dedicated to your profession and still need a healthier environment.
You can be grateful for what you learned and still decide it is time to grow somewhere else.

There is more than one dental office. More than one job. And more than one way to build a meaningful career in dental hygiene.

If opportunities feel limited in your town, start looking beyond the familiar: education, public health, research, consulting, dental companies, community outreach, or further training that opens another door.

Your skills have value beyond a single operatory.

We are healthcare providers caring for human beings. We deserve an environment where we can ask questions, speak up about patient safety, collaborate, and bring our best selves to the people trusting us with their care.

Your well-being matters, too.

If your spark has dimmed, give yourself permission to explore what comes next. Make a plan. Build connections. Take the first step.

You deserve to feel respected, supported, and excited about your future. I am grateful to be finding that again—and I want that for you, too.

KNOW YOUR WORTH, RDH. 💪💖

This October, during National Dental Hygiene Month, I want every dental hygienist to hear this:
You are a healthcare professional. Your knowledge, clinical judgment, and compassion deserve respect.

You assess. You educate. You help prevent disease. You notice changes, ask the questions that matter, and connect patients with care they may not have known they needed.

Behind every appointment is a trained professional connecting the dots between oral health and whole-body wellness—and a patient who depends on you.

You are a vital member of the dental healthcare team. Own that.

If someone calls your hygiene department a “loss leader,” remember: an accounting label cannot measure your clinical value or your impact on someone’s life. It must never become an excuse to diminish your profession.

And to the hygienist who has been made to feel small, replaceable, or “just the hygienist”…
You do not have to build your career in a place that keeps tearing you down.

You are allowed to seek an office that respects your scope, supports your growth, listens to your voice, and recognizes what you bring to the table.

Leaving does not erase your dedication. Sometimes, it honors it.

To my fellow women in dentistry: stand tall, advocate for yourselves, and lift each other up. There is room for all of us to thrive. Know your worth. Protect your confidence. Go where your professionalism is appreciated.

Tag a hygienist who needs this reminder. Let’s make sure she feels seen. 🤍

KRIS KROSS TONGUE: Let’s work that side-to-side control!

Tongue exercises are about more than sticking your tongue out! This lateral tongue exercise challenges precision, coordination, and controlled muscle engagement—all foundations of myofunctional therapy.

Watch my tongue tip follow the pattern:
✨ Left mouth corner
✨ Right cheek poke
✨ Left cheek poke
✨ Right mouth corner

LEFT ➡️ RIGHT ➡️ LEFT ➡️ RIGHT!

The goal? Move your tongue independently while keeping your jaw quiet and your face relaxed. Slow, purposeful movement beats rushing through repetitions!

Your tongue’s muscles work together to change its shape and position. Kris Kross Tongue helps practice lateral movement and gentle resistance against the cheeks, building awareness and control for more coordinated tongue function. 🧠👅

Snoring, jaw clenching, teeth grinding—or bruxism—and a scalloped tongue? These are worth investigating as part of a bigger picture that includes tongue posture, oral habits, breathing, and sleep. This exercise can be one piece of an individualized myofunctional program; those symptoms deserve assessment rather than a one-exercise fix.

💾 Save this reel and watch your jaw: is your tongue doing the work, or is your jaw joining the dance?
