Maryland City Volunteer Fire Department

Maryland City Volunteer Fire Department Volunteer Fire Department and Rescue Squad MCVFD is a combination fire company within the AACOFD with a career staffed Medic Unit and Engine.

Volunteers provide additional staffing for the engine and staff an ambulance along with a brush truck. MCVFD responds to over 1,500 medical calls annually with a county run Medic Unit and a volunteer staffed Ambulance. Fire responses are just over 1,000 yearly. With the continued development of the area, the call volume continues to grow steadily. We participate in community events throughout the

year providing standby emergency services and friendly firefighter demonstrations at events in and around the Western most part of Anne Arundel County. We also participate in events in the greater Laurel area.

CODE RED AIR QUALITY ALERT — FRIDAY, JULY 17

Smoke from Canadian wildfires continues to affect Anne Arundel County, creating hazy conditions and unhealthy air quality.

A Code Red Air Quality Alert is in effect through midnight. Everyone may experience health effects, while children, older adults, pregnant individuals, and people with heart or lung conditions may be at greater risk.

Residents who need a safe, air-conditioned place may use available County cooling relief facilities to get temporary relief from the poor air quality and heat. These locations provide indoor space where residents can reduce their exposure to smoke and extreme outdoor conditions. Check official County updates for current information. Visit https://www.aacounty.org/cool for locations and hours.

Residents should:

• Reduce the amount of time spent outdoors
• Avoid strenuous outdoor activity and exercise
• Move activities indoors when possible
• Keep windows and doors closed
• Use air conditioning or filtered indoor air
• Wear a well-fitting N95 mask when extended outdoor exposure cannot be avoided
• Keep prescribed medications and rescue inhalers nearby

Watch for coughing, shortness of breath, wheezing, chest discomfort, unusual fatigue, headaches, or irritation of the eyes and throat. Call 9-1-1 for severe breathing problems, chest pain, confusion, or another life-threatening emergency.

Check current conditions before heading outdoors at AirNow.gov.
