📣 TEEN Fest Canceled

We regret to announce that TEEN Fest, scheduled for Saturday, September 12, 2026, at Laurinburg Lanes, has been canceled due to unfavorable weather forecasts and low registration numbers.

This decision was not made lightly. We were excited to bring together youth, families, community partners, and vendors for a fun and meaningful wellness event focused on supporting our community's teens.

We sincerely thank everyone who planned to attend, volunteer, sponsor, or participate. Your support of youth wellness initiatives is greatly appreciated, and we hope to partner with you again for future events.

Please join us in welcoming Dr. James "Jimmy" Miller to OrthoCarolina Laurinburg!

Dr. Miller is a fellowship-trained orthopedic surgeon specializing in adult reconstruction and joint replacement, including advanced and robotic-assisted hip and knee replacement procedures. He is experienced in minimally invasive surgical techniques, including the muscle-sparing direct anterior approach for hip replacement, helping patients recover more quickly and return to the activities they enjoy. He also provides a full range of orthopedic care for arthritis, joint pain, fractures, sports injuries, and other musculoskeletal conditions.

With extensive experience in orthopedic surgery and a passion for helping patients regain mobility and improve their quality of life, Dr. Miller is committed to providing exceptional, compassionate care close to home.

Dr. Miller joins the team as Scotland Health prepares for the transition from OrthoCarolina Laurinburg to Scotland Health Orthopedics on October 1, further expanding access to specialized orthopedic care for our communities.

Scotland Health recognized two outstanding student volunteers, Jayden Roland and Jaden Mitchell, during its Board of Trustees meeting last Thursday morning, honoring their dedication to patient care and presenting each with a $2,000 scholarship from the Scotland Health Care System Auxiliary Department.

The recognition was presented by Christi Meggs, senior vice president of human resources for Scotland Health, who highlighted the students' exceptional service through the hospital's Junior Volunteer Program and their commitment to enhancing the patient experience at Scotland Memorial Hospital.

Both students are seniors at Scotland High School and will celebrate their 18th birthdays later this month. Despite balancing academics, athletics, and extracurricular activities, they have dedicated countless hours to serving patients and supporting teammates across the organization.

As part of our 80 Jobs for 80 Years campaign, we're highlighting the dedicated professionals behind the scenes who help keep surgical procedures running smoothly and efficiently: our OR Turnaround Technicians.

When one surgery ends and another is scheduled to begin, OR Turnaround Techs work quickly and carefully to prepare the operating room for the next patient. Their responsibilities include cleaning and disinfecting the surgical suite, removing used equipment and supplies, restocking necessary items, and ensuring the room is ready to meet the highest standards of safety and infection prevention.

Their work may happen behind the scenes, but it plays a critical role in patient care. By helping operating rooms return to service efficiently, OR Turnaround Techs support surgical teams, reduce delays, and help ensure patients receive timely care.

At Scotland Health, our OR Turnaround Techs are an essential part of the surgical services team. Their attention to detail, commitment to cleanliness, and dedication to patient safety help create a safe environment for every procedure performed at Scotland Memorial Hospital.

We are excited to share that Scotland Surgical & GI has officially made it through the first week in our brand-new facility, and we're happy to call it a success!

While every transition comes with opportunities to learn and adjust, our team experienced only minimal hiccups along the way. That success is a direct reflection of the dedication, flexibility, and positive attitude of our providers and staff who embraced the change and worked together to ensure our patients continued to receive exceptional care.

Scotland Memorial Hospital History: By the mid‑1970s, a long‑range planning effort confirmed what leaders and clinicians experienced daily: the region needed a modern facility designed for a growing multi‑county patient population.

Along the way, Scotland Health expanded the continuum of care with services that would knit together acute care, post‑acute support, and community‑based programs. In 1983, the vision became reality with the opening of the new 125‑bed Scotland Memorial Hospital on Lauchwood Drive—a private, nonprofit community hospital built with extraordinary local backing and designed to serve a broader regional footprint for the decades ahead.

A turning point arrived with the formation of the Scotland Memorial Foundation in 1988, establishing a dedicated philanthropic engine to power patient support, screenings, education, and strategic investments in community health. Over time, the Foundation has championed initiatives that remove barriers to care—funding preventive screenings (including mammography), transportation and medication assistance, and education/ scholarships for caregivers and students, while strengthening outreach events and partnerships across Scotland, Western Robeson, and Marlboro counties. Its mission is clear: provide resources and build relationships to improve community health while supporting Scotland Health Care System’s delivery of safe, high‑quality, compassionate, and sustainable care.

Scotland Memorial Hospital History: The temporary Air Base hospital proved both essential and insufficient. By 1951, a successful community campaign had paved the way for a new, 100‑bed permanent hospital to be built on McLean Street in Laurinburg —a landmark demonstrating how deeply residents valued accessible, local healthcare. Over the next decade and a half, expansions in 1956 and 1960 boosted capacity to 134 and then 170 beds, with further modernization in 1966 supported by more than $1 million in local contributions. The community’s conviction was clear: investing in the hospital was investing in the region’s future.
