⚠️ TICK ALERT: What to Watch For & When to Act ⚠️

It’s Tick Season in Michigan Already! While enjoying the outdoors, it's vital to stay vigilant. Ticks are tiny, but they can carry diseases like Lyme.

We've put together a critical checklist of red flags to watch out for after a potential tick bite. If you experience any of these, don't wait to seek treatment.
________________________________________
PART 1: Post-Bite Watchlist (3 to 30 Days)
After a bite, monitor the site and your overall health. Look for:
1. THE RASH (Erythema Migrans):
o An expanding red circle.
o It may, but NOT always, look like a "bull’s-eye." It can simply be a large, circular, red patch.
o Usually grows larger than 2 inches (5 cm).
2. UNEXPLAINED FLU-LIKE SYMPTOMS:
o Fever or chills
o Severe headache
o Extreme fatigue
o Muscle and joint aches
o Swollen lymph nodes
________________________________________
PART 2: When to Seek Medical Care
Consult a healthcare provider promptly if you experience any of the following:
• You develop the expanding rash (Part 1).
• You have a fever, headache, or fatigue within a few weeks of a bite, even without a rash.
• You cannot remove the entire tick (the head is stuck in your skin).
• You believe the tick was attached for a long time (generally over 24-36 hours for Lyme disease risk).
• The bite area looks infected (increasing redness, warmth, swelling, or pus).
• You develop late-stage symptoms: such as facial paralysis (Bell's palsy), severe joint pain/swelling, or heart palpitations.
