Did you know September is Falls Prevention Awareness Month?
Falls are a serious threat to the health and independence of older adults, both in our community and across the country. Although falls can happen to anyone, age-related changes can increase the risk of falling and the likelihood of serious injury.
Fortunately, there are steps you can take to reduce your risk of falling—and VNA’s Director of Therapy Clinical Services, Audrey Welch, and her team of skilled therapists are here to help!
In addition to helping patients make safety adjustments in their homes and guiding them through exercises to improve strength and balance, VNA’s therapy team is also trained in Vestibular Therapy.
As Audrey wrote in the August edition of the Senior Resource Center - SRC's newsletter: "Vestibular therapy uses specialized exercises to help your brain and balance system work together more effectively, reducing dizziness and improving stability. A licensed therapist can teach simple grounding and breathing techniques to help manage these symptoms, which may occur during everyday activities such as opening a door or bending over to tie your shoes. Vestibular exercises help retrain your eyes, inner ear, and brain to work together more effectively, reducing dizziness and improving balance."
If you’re struggling with dizziness or vertigo, give VNA a call to learn more about Vestibular Therapy and how we may be able to help you feel steadier on your feet.
