Starting kindergarten is a big adjustment.

Expect some extra fatigue and emotional ups and downs those first few weeks. An earlier bedtime can make a big difference.

And with school starting in a couple of weeks, flu season isn’t far behind. Flu vaccines will be available at DVPA soon, including FluMist for many children age 2 and older.

Our flu clinics this year are October 4th and October 25th, and weekday appointments can also be self scheduled through the patient portal.

Wishing all of our new kindergartners and everyone heading back to school a great year!

It’s hard to believe we’re already in the last month of summer!

If your child still needs their annual physical before school starts, we have some appointments available, and our schedule is now open through November.

For athletes whose physical is current and who just need the sports participation form for the fall season, you can print a copy anytime through the patient portal so you’re ready for the first day of practice.

A few other DVPA updates:
• Save the dates for our annual Flu Clinics — Sundays, October 4 and October 25.

• Our next Infant CPR class is Tuesday, September 1 at 5 PM.

• For kids starting kindergarten, now is a good time to check the patient portal and confirm vaccines are up to date. If you’ve lost portal access, just contact us and we’ll help you reset it.

For older patients heading off to college sports, don’t forget to check your school/NCAA requirements for sickle cell screening.

And for those who have been asking, yes, we also offer ear piercings right in the office (appointment required).

Enjoy the rest of the summer!

Pediatrics isn’t just about taking care of kids when they’re sick. A big part of what we do is helping them stay healthy as they grow. That’s why well visits matter. Tracy Tyson MD

With flu season coming up, here’s an important new study to share.
Researchers found that the flu vaccine reduced the risk of death from influenza by 80% among U.S. children and teens from August 2016 through July 2025. As flu season approaches, it’s a great reminder to make sure your child is protected with their annual flu vaccine.

Did you know 1 in 4 school age children requires corrective lenses or has other vision disorders?

Here are a few signs your child could have vision issues:

* Frequent squinting or sitting too close to screens
* Headaches or eye rubbing after reading
* Falling behind in class or skipping lines while reading
* Complaints of blurry or double vision
* Tilting the head to see better

If any of these sound familiar, it might be time for an eye exam. Contact Delaware Valley Pediatric Associates to schedule a vision screening or wellness visit if your child is due.
