If your child has Katie Beckett, your child is eligibile for additional funding for expenses not covered by Katie Beckett! ๐๐ฅฐ
Need help covering costs for things not covered by Katie Beckett like summer camps, swim lessons, music therapy, or a specialized bike?
Family Support Services (such as our friends at InCommunity) can help families cover expenses such as:
* Respite services
* Social/recreational activities (camps, adaptive swim lessons, etc.)
* Family education
* Special medical equipment, diets, clothing, and personal care items (like special bikes or therapy swings)
* Other services and supports unique to each family's needs
Family Support Services is a non-entitlement program which brokers disability-specific services based on the unique needs of individuals and their families.
The ultimate goal is to maintain a cohesive family unit while helping individuals live at home in the community. These supports meet everyday needs that are often critical in avoiding family crises.
Family Support Services are tailored to meet your familyโs needs. Family Support Coordinators work with families to develop Individualized Family Support Service Plans. Some of the services might include:
Eligibility
Individuals age 3 and up with a diagnosed developmental disability living in Georgia at home with their families, and are not currently receiving a NOW/COMP Waiver, are eligible for Family Support Services.
Eligible diagnoses include, but are not limited to:
* Developmental Disability
* Intellectual Disability
* Cerebral Palsy
* Autism Spectrum Disorders
* Down Syndrome
Note: This is a funding resource, that you want to go ahead and apply for quickly. This is a Non-Entitlement Program which means that, unlike the Waivers Funding, your child is not entitled to get the funding annually.
The Family Support Services Program funding is dependent on the GA Legislation, allocating funding each Legislative Year. So, if the Legislation donโt fully fund or cut this programโs funding, services are suspended or reduced.
The Fiscal Year for this program is July 1st of the current year, until June 30th of the next year. Currently, thatโs July 1, 2020-June 30, 2021. So, depending on your County, their funds may run out quickly. Especially, if they are funding a lot of special needs families.
The Maximum Annual/Fiscal Allocation amount is $3000, but it could be less, again it just depends on how many families, this particular Provider/Broker is trying to serve.
