The Cohen Clinic at Red Rock was honored to be part of the Cherokee Veterans History Project in Tahlequah, Oklahoma, where the stories of 25 Cherokee veterans were recorded and preserved for future generations.

Clinic Director Larken Wofford attended the event alongside Maggie Shrum from U.S. Sen. James Lankford’s office.

“It was a joy to be part of this event and see the incredible work the Cherokee Nation is doing to honor and care for veterans. As a Cherokee myself, it was especially meaningful to see these veterans have the opportunity to share their experiences and preserve their stories as part of our nation’s history.” — Larken Wofford

Cherokee Nation Principal Chief Chuck Hoskin Jr. also spoke at the event, recognizing the service and stories of Cherokee veterans.

And we at the Cohen Clinic at Red Rock in Lawton are excited to continue this important work!

Today, we pause to remember the lives lost on September 11, 2001, and honor the courage, sacrifice, and service that followed.

For many of the veterans, service members, and military families served by Cohen Clinics, and for those on our teams, this day is deeply personal. As we reflect on its lasting impact 25 years later, we remain committed to ensuring military and veteran families can access high-quality mental health care and support when they need it.

We’re proud to share a special moment from this summer!

Cohen Clinic at Red Rock Director Larken Wofford was honored to present to the Veterans Committee at the National Congress of American Indians (NCAI) Convention, sharing more about the work our clinic does to support service members, veterans and their families.

For Larken, the opportunity was especially meaningful. As a member of the Cherokee Nation and the spouse of a Cherokee Veteran, supporting Native American veterans and their families is a mission close to her heart.

Native Americans have a long and distinguished tradition of military service, and Larken shared how meaningful it was to hear about the advocacy, collaboration and collective efforts underway to support Native veterans and their communities.

She also had the opportunity to connect with fellow Native American veterans and advocates, including James Phoenix, Marine Corps and Army National Guard veteran; Dean Dauphinais, Marine Corps veteran and representative of National American Indian Veterans; and William Lowe, Native American veteran and Muscogee Nation National Council Representative.

We’re grateful to NCAI for inviting Larken to be part of this important conversation — and proud to see the Cohen Clinic at Red Rock represented among those working to honor and support Native American veterans and military families. 🇺🇸
