During a vaginal birth, a baby’s body experiences significant compression as they navigate the birth canal. This natural process helps prepare them for life outside the womb, but the compressive forces on the head, neck, spine, and jaw can sometimes leave babies feeling a little “out of sorts” in the days and weeks after birth.
During a cesarean birth, babies often avoid those compressive forces, but may instead experience traction and pulling forces as they are guided through the surgical incision and into the world.
Regardless of how a baby arrives, birth is a major physical event. For some infants, tension and restrictions in the body may contribute to challenges such as difficulty latching, feeding preferences on one side, body tension, reflux, fussiness, or trouble settling comfortably.
Pediatric chiropractic care uses gentle, age-appropriate techniques to assess and address areas of tension and restricted movement. The goal isn’t to “fix” babies; it’s to support their developing nervous system and help their bodies adapt and recover from the physical stresses of birth.
Every birth story is different. Every baby is different. Every family deserves support as they navigate those early days together.
