Early detection matters! At a recent Utah Royals FC game, we were proud to help spread awareness about the importance of staying up to date on mammograms. Regular screenings and early detection remain some of our strongest tools in the fight against breast cancer.

A special shout out to our incredible Mobile Mammography team, who were recognized at halftime as our Health Heroes! 🩷 Thank you for the work you do to bring important breast cancer screenings closer to the communities we serve.

We recently had the distinct opportunity of recognizing KaRin Koller, an echo/vascular tech in our imaging department, as a LOVE Award recipient. KaRin was nominated for the honor by a patient for whom she had provided care.

"KaRin made sure I understood exactly what the procedure would entail despite me feeling terrified of how it was going to go," the patient said in the nomination. "She was patient and highly knowledgeable, and even talked me through the entire [procedure] to show me exactly what she was doing and why. It was very clear that KaRin cares about her patients and has a genuine desire to help find answers.

"KaRin did the right thing by making sure I had a good relationship with my referring [physician], and by making sure she got the best quality images possible ... KaRin treated me with kindness, respect, and dignity from start to finish.

"Without KaRin’s expertise and commitment to doing the right thing, I may still be desperately searching for answers."

Congratulations, KaRin! Thank you for your great work in exemplifying what extraordinary care looks like at Layton Hospital!

We recently had the distinct opportunity of recognizing Shelley Lomax, a nurse on our NICU, as a LOVE / Daisy Award recipient. Shelly was nominated for the honor by a coworker who witnessed her in action.

"I would like to nominate Shelley ... for the extraordinary compassion and empathy she showed to a family in our NICU during a very difficult time."

The nomination noted that Shelley learned of a family member of a baby in the NICU being terminally ill, and decided to gift the family with a book which would allow them to record their voice reading a sotry as a keepsake to allow the family member's "voice, love, and presence to live on."

"This simple yet profoundly meaningful act brought comfort, dignity, and humanity to a situationfilled with heartbreak. It reflected Shelley's ability to truly see the family, honor their story, and care for them far beyond their medical needs."

Congratulations, Shelley! Thank you for your great work in exemplifying what it means to serve with empathy at Layton Hospital!

It's National Volunteer Week, and we are so incredibly grateful for the volunteers who help brighten the halls of Layton Hospital.

From greeting patients as they enter the facility and assisting patients in wheelchairs, to playing calming music in our main lobby and providing cuddles to our newest patients in the nursery, they do it all with willing hearts and hands.

Thank you to our many volunteers, and to our incredible volunteer coordinator, Emily Kagie, who keeps them all busy with tasks to make their days at Layton Hospital meaningful!
