Plains Area Mental Health is a mental health care company based out of 180 10th St SE, Le Mars, IA 51031. In 1972, after years of planning and deliberation, the Plains Area Mental Health Center proudly opened its doors one day a week and began serving the residents of Plymouth County. Over the years, the organization has grown and changed in response to community needs across the region. Today, Pl

ains Area Mental Health Center has offices in many locations across Northwest Iowa. Our staff includes trained and experienced doctors, nurses, counselors, therapists and support staff. We are proud of the many benefits and services we provide for people of all ages across the region. We have offices in Le Mars, Orange City, Cherokee, Ida Grove, Storm Lake, Carroll, Denison, Lake City, Sac City, Spirit Lake, Emmetsburg, and Rock Rapids. Reserve your spot for our Free Applied Su***de Intervention Skills Training (ASIST)!

This two-day, interactive workshop is designed to teach caregivers how to provide life-assisting first-aid intervention to those at risk for su***de!

Trainings will be held on September 24th-25th, 2026, from 8:00 A.M. - 4:30 P.M. at DMACC Carroll Campus, Room 180, 906 N. Grant Road, Carroll, IA 51401

Everyone is welcome and encouraged to participate in this FREE training! This interactive workshop prepares participants to be better able to:
🌀 Identify people who have suicidal thoughts.
🌀 Understand how beliefs and attitudes can affect su***de interventions.
🌀 Conduct a safety assessment and develop a plan that will keep the person at risk safe-for-now.
🌀 Confirm the person at risk's faith in the safe plan and their intent to follow it through.

This training is made possible due to funding through a Federal SAMHSA CCBHC Grant!

Youth Mental Health First Aid trainings teach you how to identify, understand and respond to signs of mental health and substance use challenges among children and adolescents ages 12-18.
