Back-to-school success starts with a good night’s sleep. 😴📚

As children settle into a new school year, getting back to a consistent sleep schedule can help them feel and perform their best. Healthy sleep supports growth, learning, attention, and physical and emotional well-being.

Parents can help by establishing a consistent bedtime routine and making sure children get the recommended amount of sleep for their age. It’s also important to watch for signs that your child may not be getting enough rest.

If your child continues to have trouble sleeping even with a consistent routine, talk with your UTMB Health pediatrician. They can help determine whether there may be an underlying issue affecting your child’s sleep.

Help set your child up for a healthy, successful school year by making sleep a priority.

For many women, extra weight during middle age isn’t simply the result of eating more or exercising less. Hormonal changes can affect the body in a variety of ways, including changes in weight and how fat is distributed.

According to Dr. Sura Alqaisi, an endocrinologist at UTMB, women experiencing unexplained weight gain should talk with their physician. A doctor can evaluate potential causes, order appropriate tests and discuss options that may help.

Most importantly, women shouldn’t blame themselves for the changes happening in their bodies. Give yourself grace and talk with your doctor about solutions that can help you feel your best. Read more: https://utmb.us/gdp

Back-to-school season can bring excitement, but it can also bring anxiety for some children.

If your child seems unusually worried about heading back to school, know that those feelings are more common than you might think. Anxiety can also manifest in physical ways, making it important to recognize the signs early.

Your support can make all the difference. Listen, validate their feelings and remind them it's okay to be nervous about something new.

If your child's anxiety persists or you're unsure how to help, the pediatric experts at UTMB Health are here to support your family.
