No, I have not lost my mind. I’ve just chosen to do educate myself in another field so I can better collaborate and support families.
I do think the field of ABA needs to be reformed. Better training for RBT’s, relationship driven interactions, and decreasing only DTT. Insurance loves ABA because of the data but data can be taken from naturalistic teaching. Most BCBA’s just arent trained to do this. I think ABA centers should be owned and operated by therapist not corporations trying to make money.
The fighting and negative talk only impacts families. It confuses parents and doesn’t actually help anyone. BCBA’s can learn a lot from developmental science and I choose to share my knowledge to everyone not just people using child led interventions.
And by the way, bad Floortime and bad child led therapy happens all the time. If we don’t scaffold the child and just make it about being affirming, modeling language, and meeting them where they are, there is not challenge and this inhibits the child’s development.
