Meal prep does not have to be complicated to actually support your gut.

The basic idea behind this week's lunch bowls is simple: protein, colorful vegetables, a fiber-rich carbohydrate, and a healthy fat, all in one container.

Dr. Aaron Chapa often explains to patients across Texas that fiber from vegetables, fruits, beans, and whole grains helps feed the beneficial bacteria living in the gut. That is one reason a variety of plant foods matters, not just protein.

Three bowls to try this week:

Chicken and roasted vegetable bowl with sweet potato and avocado
Salmon and greens bowl with roasted carrots and quinoa
Turkey and vegetable bowl with cauliflower, peppers, and brown rice

A plant-based option with chickpeas or lentils also works well for some people, though anyone with digestive sensitivities may want to increase fiber gradually rather than all at once.

Save this for your next grocery trip.

Running on empty by the time the evening rolls around?

If you are too tired to give your family the attention you deserve, you are not alone. Constant fatigue is usually a sign that your body is dealing with hidden stress. When your spine has minor misalignments, it blocks the communication between your brain and your nervous system, leaving your body running on low power. Pair that with underlying nutritional deficiencies, and your organs have to work twice as hard just to keep you going.

Here at the clinic, we use a specialized approach called the Assisted Self Alignment Protocol to help clear those interferences and restore your natural energy. Stop pushing through burnout on your own. Drop a comment below to share what drains your energy the most, and make sure to follow the Living Well Clinical Nutrition page for more daily wellness strategies.

You do not have to live in an anxiety type prison in this overstimulated world. Understanding your root cause is the first step back to calm.

Why do some people get sick every single time the seasons change? It is not just about the weather. Your daily habits and environment play a massive role in how your immune system responds to seasonal shifts.

Here is what is really happening:

First, your immune system may be under stress. Poor sleep, chronic stress, and inadequate nutrition can dictate how well your body responds to everyday exposures.

Second, you are spending more time indoors. When the weather changes, people spend more time in closer contact with others, which increases exposure to respiratory bugs.

Third, shorter days disrupt your sleep and daily routines, impacting your overall well-being.

Fourth, nutrition matters. A diet lacking enough protein, fruits, vegetables, and other nutrient-dense foods makes it harder to support normal immune function.

Finally, seasonal allergies can mimic getting sick. Allergies cause congestion, sneezing, and fatigue, which many people mistake for a viral infection.

At Living Well Clinical Nutrition, we focus on preparing your body for these transitions before they happen.

Foods you think are healthy, but might not actually be helping you.

Health marketing can be misleading. Here are a few common items to take a closer look at in your daily nutrition:

Flavored yogurt often contains a surprising amount of hidden added sugar Granola can carry hidden added sugars and oils, making it far more calorie-dense than it appears Commercial protein bars are frequently ultra-processed and packed with heavy sweeteners or syrups Fruit juice delivers concentrated natural sugar with most of the beneficial fiber stripped away Low-fat products often replace fat with added sugars or starches to compensate for flavor and texture Commercial smoothies can quickly turn into high-calorie sugar bombs depending on portions and ingredients

Healthy is not just about the marketing on the label.

Look at the ingredients, evaluate your portions, and pay attention to how your body actually responds. Visit our page to learn more about clinical nutrition and individualized health strategies.

Here is a trick we teach patients to remember their brain foods, and it actually works because your body becomes the checklist.

Picture yourself from head to toe.

Blueberries in your eyes. Broccoli as your teeth. Walnuts at your belly button, because they genuinely look like tiny brains. Turmeric sprinkled over your food, right where you would season a meal. Lettuce leaves as your shoulder pads. Eggs sitting around your tonsils. Salmon running straight down the middle. Dark chocolate on your, well, you get the idea. And olive oil pouring out your ears.

It sounds silly, and that is exactly why it sticks. Next time you are doing your Saturday grocery run or meal prepping for the week, run through your body from head to toe and check, did I get all of these brain foods in?

Follow Living Well Clinical Nutrition for more practical meal strategies and clinical insights.

How long does food actually stay in your stomach? The answer is a little more complicated than a chart of exact minutes.

Your stomach doesn't run on a stopwatch. After you eat, it mixes food with digestive juices and gradually releases it into the small intestine. How fast that happens depends on portion size, meal composition, calories, fat content, and your own individual digestion.

You may have seen charts floating around online, fruit in 30 minutes, eggs in 1.5 hours, beef in 3 hours. Those numbers are better understood as general examples, not exact digestion times for everyone.

Fruits and vegetables tend to be higher in water and lower in fat, so they often move through faster than heavier meals.

Bread, pasta, and other carbs vary a lot depending on what you pair them with. Bread alone digests very differently than bread with cheese, avocado, eggs, or butter.

Eggs, chicken, and beef generally take more digestive work since they're protein rich, but there's no universal 1.5 hours for eggs or 3 hours for beef that applies to everyone.

Cheese and fried foods tend to slow gastric emptying because of their fat content, which is part of why richer meals leave you feeling full longer.

And remember, most of us eat mixed meals, so your stomach is processing several nutrients and textures together, not running each food through its own individual timer.

Eating a lighter dinner may feel more comfortable for some people, but there's no need to fear foods that take longer to digest. Your digestive system is literally built for this.

Save this for the next time someone tells you a banana takes exactly a certain number of minutes to digest.
