🌿🙌🏼 Psychotherapy increases self-awareness but requires asking the right questions. Too often, we guide people using an outdated framework; asking things like, "What do you want to do with the rest of your life?"
This puts an abstract job title first & daily reality second, which is often how burnout begins.
True self-awareness isn't about picking a career title; it's about understanding how you actually want to live. To build meaningful insight, we have to flip the question entirely: What kind of lifestyle do you picture yourself happy and thriving in?
When we examine how you want to spend your time, energy, and resources on an average day, the right direction becomes more clear👏🏼🙌🏼
Instead of asking what job you want, let's explore what kind of life will keep you fulfilled & financially secure.
Daily Rhythms
How do you want your typical Tuesday afternoon to look? Are you at a desk, active outdoors, or moving between locations?
What are your absolute non-negotiables for off-hours? (e.g., rigid weekends off, predictable 5 PM shutdowns, or flexible midday breaks?)
Do you prefer clear boundaries where work completely stops at the end of the day, or are you comfortable with work bleeding into personal time or weekends if it offers autonomy?
Financial Demands
What specific activities determine your target income? (e.g., quarterly international trips, fine dining, raising children, early independence, or high-end hobbies?)
Are you comfortable with income volatility (commissions, consulting, entrepreneurship) in exchange for higher upside, or do you require a stable, predictable paycheck?
Energy
What kind of environment recharges you versus drains you? (e.g., solo deep work, quiet environments, collaborative team settings, or high-intensity client interactions?)
How much travel do you actually want; is it frequent personal vacation time, working remotely from different locations, or strictly business travel with only 2 weeks per year paid okay?
Structure
Do you thrive under a clear structure provided by an organization, or do you need control over your own schedule & methods?
How much responsibility for managing people, budgets, or business outcomes do you want to carry outside your primary hours? How much do you enjoy being in charge?
