We love catching up with our referring offices! Here are just a few snapshots from recent visits with members of some of the local dental community throughout Leander and Cedar Park.

These relationships are an important part of how we care for our patients. Great patient care doesn’t happen in isolation, it happens when providers communicate, collaborate, and work together toward the same goal.

We strive to maintain clear communication and open pathways between our office and our referring teams, so everyone stays informed throughout the patient’s journey. From the initial referral to treatment planning, procedures, follow-up care, and ultimately returning the patient to their general dentist or other specialist, we want every provider involved to feel supported and confident in the care their patient is receiving.

Our role extends beyond simply treating the patient we were referred. We’re here to support the patient, their dentist, and the entire dental team.

What makes TMJ care at Niva different?

Every TMJ patient begins with a comprehensive evaluation by our oral surgeon, including a detailed history, intraoral and extraoral examination, and CBCT imaging to evaluate the TMJ, airway, and surrounding anatomy and structures.

Based on the findings of this in-depth evaluation, the initial treatment plan may involve our in-house physical therapist as well as coordination with other specialties, such as sleep medicine, ENT, rheumatology, and others, depending on the factors contributing to each patient’s presentation.

Once a patient is scheduled with our physical therapist, the collaboration between our oral surgeon and physical therapist begins. They communicate throughout the patient’s care, sharing findings, discussing observations, and continuously connecting the structural and functional pieces of the puzzle.

Having these providers under one roof allows for ongoing communication and collaboration that is uncommon in TMJ care. The result is a deeper, more comprehensive approach, with a treatment plan that can evolve as we learn more about each patient. Two specialties. One team. A truly comprehensive approach to TMJ care.

We’re proud to celebrate two of our incredible team members, Lashae and Jen, as they each reach their 2-year anniversaries with Niva! 🎉

Lashae and Jen are two of the smiling, caring faces our patients see and interact with throughout their Niva experience. They truly are at the heart of what makes this practice special.

Thank you both for your hard work, dedication, and commitment to providing our patients with the highest quality of care. So much of what makes a patient’s experience exceptional happens in the details: making sure post-operative care is communicated and coordinated thoughtfully, ensuring fee transparency, helping patients navigate scheduling, anticipating their needs, and making sure every part of their experience feels organized, supported, and cared for.

Those details may happen behind the scenes, but they make a tremendous difference.

At Niva, excellence isn’t just about the clinical care we provide, it's about how we care for our patients at every step of their journey. It’s about being intentional, taking ownership, supporting one another, and never settling for “good enough” when we know we can do better.

That is the culture we strive to build every day, and Lashae and Jen embody it so beautifully. We are incredibly grateful for everything you both bring to our team and to our patients.

Periodontal disease is not always as simple as people think. It is a chronic inflammatory condition with many contributing factors, which is why understanding the diagnosis and what is driving it is such an important part of treatment.

At Niva, we believe patients deserve to understand not only what periodontal disease is, but also what can be done to control it, manage it, and protect their teeth for as long as possible. It is a fight we take seriously, and one we approach as a team alongside our patients.

Some gifts mean more than words can express.

After undergoing a life-changing full-arch rehabilitation, from having no teeth to leaving with a fixed smile the same day, our patient returned for her post-op check with her daughter, who brought handmade cookies for our entire team!

Her case was a true team effort. From surgical planning to ex*****on to every detail involved in her care, our entire team worked together to give her the highest quality outcome possible. We are incredibly proud of her results and even more grateful that she trusted us with such a transformative part of her life. We are especially grateful for the opportunity to care for patients who have been told elsewhere that their needs are too complex or that they simply "can't" be treated.

When a patient puts that kind of trust in us, we don't take it lightly. We are honored to be part of these journeys and even more honored when our patients become part of the Niva family.

And yes... the cookies were every bit as wonderful as the smile!

Your mouth is a window into your overall health.

At Niva, we use salivary testing as a point-of-care diagnostic tool to better understand each patient's unique oral microbiome. By identifying bacteria associated with periodontal disease and inflammation, we're able to create more personalized treatment plans, monitor progress over time, and provide deeper insight into the connection between oral and whole-body health.

It's one of the many ways we practice medical-dental integration; looking beyond the symptoms to identify the root cause and treat the whole person, not just the condition that brought them through our doors.
