We are watching the potential for a significant amount of snow this weekend. Here are some snow shoveling tip to help prevent injury and soreness:
.) Warm up your muscles prior to shoveling, this can be done by doing a brisk walk in the house for 5-10 minutes.
.) Avoid lifting as much as possible, but if you have to lift the shovel, bend and lift with your knees.
.) Keep the shovel closes to your body and avoid extending your arms out to move snow.
.) Avoid twisting, try to push the snow forward rather than rotating your body.
.) Take frequent breaks and be sure to drink water.
.) Stretch after shoveling to help decrease soreness.
.) Use heat for a maximum of ten minutes on sore muscles, wait at least an hour before re-applying heat.
