John H. Shumate was born July 8, 1943 in Lebanon, Missouri to Joe and Elsie Vaughn Shumate. He passed away in his Lebanon home on Thursday, October 22, 2026, at the age of eighty-three years, three months and fourteen days.
John was raised in the Lebanon area and attended Candock Elementary School. He worked at MFA for years and drove a school bus for fifteen years for the Lebanon R-3 school system. He raised cattle and was proud to have owned his own farm.
On August 6, 1965, John was united in marriage to Nondis Jane Rogers. To this union, one son was born. They shared fifty-nine wonderful years together before Nondis passed away September 14, 2024.
John is preceded in death by his parents, Joe and Elsie Shumate; his loving wife, Nondis Shumate; his brothers, Fred, Joe, Wayne and Billy Shumate; and his sisters, Ivah Stewart, Katherine Wimberly, Alice Hahn, Irene Cromer and Virginia Adkins.
John is survived by his son, John Shumate; his cherished grandchildren, Wyatt, Charlotte and Cooper; his sisters-in-law, Patricia Shumate and Sue Purcell; a special nephew, Russell Shumate; two special nieces, Cindy Anthony and Randi O’Quinn; and other relatives and friends.
In his younger years, John enjoyed fishing and traveling. Later in life, he loved being on the farm with his family. He loved farm life very much and having his family, grandchildren and other family members together made him very happy.

Hilda Marie Wilson Mooney, daughter of William H. and Eula Hill Wilson, was born March 3, 1939, in her family home near Lebanon, Missouri. She departed this life Thursday, October 22, 2026 in her eldest daughter and son-in-law’s home, at the age of eighty-seven years, seven months and nineteen days.
On June 20, 1959, Hilda was united in marriage to the love of her life, Lenvil Sylvan Mooney, and to this union, two daughters were born. She and Lenvil shared sixty-one wonderful years together before Lenvil’s passing on February 14, 2021.
In addition to her husband, Lenvil, she is preceded in death by her parents; her sister, Alma Grace; her father and mother-in-law, Sylvan and Pearl Mooney; and a special uncle, J. Morris Hill, who was like a father to her after her own father passed away.
Hilda is survived by two daughters, Brenda Miller and her husband Steve of Lebanon, Missouri, and Melinda Lumley of Marshfield, Missouri; her grandchildren, Chelsea Gunther and her husband William, McKenzie Starnes and her husband Aaron, Tessa Lumley, Tara Lumley and Britni Coffey, who was lovingly thought of as a granddaughter; eight great-grandchildren, Chloe, Gavin and Kenley Gottman, Lily and Dawson Gunther, Sage, Maddox and Maisley Starnes; her sisters-in-law, Lucille Garrison and Pat Mooney; her brothers and sisters-in-law, Jim and Linda Howe and Richard and Beverly Breeden; her special cousins, Sandra Waterman and Ron Hill; several nieces and nephews; as well...

Lois Elaine Werts passed away October 21, 2026, at Citizens Memorial Hospital in Bolivar, MO at the age of 96. She was born on April 4, 1930. Lois married Loren Lee Werts on November 2, 1952. She lived her whole life in Polk County except for the first 3 years of marriage while Loren served in the Navy. Lois was preceded in death by her parents Paul and Ruth Armstrong, her sisters Joy Wilkinson and Neita Campbell, and her brother Paul Dean Armstrong. Lois is survived by her brother J.O. Armstrong and sister-in-law Rose. Her son Stanley Werts and daughter Jane Arnold, and son-in-law Glen, 5 grandchildren and 7 great-grandchildren. Lois was a member of Humansville Methodist church and played piano at Flemington Methodist Church. She was a long-time member of GFWC. Lois retired from serving as librarian at the Humansville Library after 25 years. She enjoyed drawing, painting, crafts, and sewing. Lois will be missed by family and her many friends. A graveside service will be held on Monday, October 26, 2026 at the Humansville Cemetery in Humansville, Missouri. Visitation for Lois will be held at from 1:00 P.M. until 2:45 P.M. on Monday, October 26, at the Butler Funeral Home in Humansville, Missouri. Memorial donations may be made to the St. Jude's Children's Hospital.

Helen Maxine Cullen, daughter of Morgan Riley Pope and Marie Edith Pope (Armstrong), was born, October 20, 1941 in Lebanon, Missouri. She departed this life on her birthday, October 20, 2026, in Osage Beach, Missouri at the age of eighty-five years.
On June 24, 1957 she was united in marriage to WB Cullen and together they shared sixty years of marriage until WB’s passing in 2017.
Helen was preceded in death by her parents; WB; her sisters, Joan Brant, Margaret Pope, Darlene Webb, and Irene Chastain; and her brother, Richard Pope.
She is survived by her daughters, Glenda Sue Hagner and husband Derek, Lois Marie Cullen, and Christina Crothers and husband Bill; son, Everett R. Cullen and wife Lisa; grandchildren, Machelle Bates, Jeremy Branch and wife Diana, Brittany Branch, Jason Peters and wife Colleen, Justin Swadley and wife Tara, Jessica Thompson and husband Matt, and Brandon Goring and wife Ashley; a host of great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends.
Helen was raised in Lebanon, Missouri where she attended school and married WB.
She took pride in being a great waitress at many local restaurants and enjoyed quilting in her spare time.
She was a loving mother, grandmother, neighbor and friend. We celebrate her life and her accomplishments and will treasure the memories she created for her family and friends.

Daniel “Brian” Breedlove, son of Daniel and Hazel Elmore Breedlove, was born January 18, 1963 in Houston, Missouri. He departed this life Monday, October 19, 2026 at his home in Lebanon, Missouri. He was sixty-three years, nine months and one day of age.
Brian was raised in the Lynchburg Community and attended Plato High School. He worked in construction and at the Independent Stave Company. He also worked for several years on a farm milking cows, as well as other duties on the farm.
On February 4, 2007, Brian was united in marriage to Nancy K. Shumate. Together they weathered life’s storms and celebrated life’s victories side by side. She passed away May 3, 2013 at the age of thirty-six.
In addition to his wife, Nancy, Brian is preceded in death by his father, Daniel Breedlove.
He is survived by his mother, Hazel Breedlove of Lynchburg, Missouri; his daughter, Lela Merriman of Mt. Vernon, Missouri; three grandchildren, Axil, Lexi and Aiden; his sister, Anita Long of Lebanon, Missouri; three brothers, Keith Breedlove and Greg Breedlove, both of Lynchburg, Missouri, and Randy Breedlove of Falcon, Missouri; a number of nieces and nephews and other relatives and friends.
Brian enjoyed going hunting for arrowheads, and he also liked making them. He had many in his collection and very knowledgeable in the varieties of arrowheads found in the Missouri Ozarks. He also played the guitar, looked forward to going fishing, and being outdoors.

Velma JoAnn Stewart, daughter of Everett Lyle and Helen Lucille Larson Nelson, was born September 3, 1950 in Fayette, Iowa. She departed her life October 19, 2026 at Lebanon South Nursing and Rehab in Lebanon, Missouri. She was seventy-six years, one month and sixteen days of age.
Velma was preceded in death by her parents, Everett and Helen; her sisters, Joyce Stewart and Donna Stimson; her son, Gary Alan Nelson; her daughter, Angie Buchman; and a grandson, Gavin Price.
Velma is survived by two brothers, Alan Nelson and his wife Peggy of Lebanon, Missouri, and William “Butch” Nelson and his wife Kristi of Webster City, Iowa; a sister, Dorothy Hively and her husband Kris of Goldfield, Iowa; two daughters, Peggy Bennett and Amanda Gibbs and her husband Shawn, all of Lebanon, Missouri; three grandchildren, Heather Bennett, Brandon Bennett and Cole Gibbs; three great-grandchildren, Styles Price, Baylor and Archer Bennett.
She was born and raised in Iowa and graduated from Webster City High School in Webster City, Iowa. After marrying her late ex-husband, John Stewart in 1975, she made her home in Lebanon, Missouri. Velma worked at H.D. Lee Factory until it closed, then she worked at Gaslight Manor in the kitchen.
Velma attended Grace Calvary Church many years ago and was a Sunday School teacher there.
