In the helping professions, we often talk about vicarious trauma, the emotional weight that can come from walking alongside people through pain, crisis, and hardship.
But there is another important concept we lean into at PCS: vicarious resilience.
Across our programs, PCS staff serve individuals, families, and communities who have often faced significant barriers, loss, injustice, and adversity. The work can be challenging. The stories can be heavy. And yet, every day, our teams also witness strength, healing, courage, and hope.
That matters.
At PCS, we continue to look for meaningful ways to support the people doing this work: through connection, gatherings, team-building, training opportunities, increased compensation efforts, PTO benefits, and a culture that recognizes the emotional demands of care.
We also want to keep our eyes open to the resilience already around us: in our clients, in our communities, and in one another.
Because sometimes, when things feel dark, we remember to turn on a light.
