Share a Memory
Sometimes the best moments don’t require a planned activity, just a little time together.
Try pulling out an old family photo and sitting beside someone you love. If your loved one is living with memory loss, instead of asking questions like “Who is this?” or “Do you remember?” try making a simple observation:
-“Everyone looks so happy here.”
-“That dress is beautiful.”
-“Look at that old car!”
-“This looks like such a special place.”
Then give them time to respond. A story may come, or it may not. Either is okay.
You can also gently ask about favorite family meals, holiday traditions, music, pets, vacations, or dancing. Sometimes one small memory can lead to a wonderful conversation.
Caregiver Reminder: The goal isn’t always remembering, it’s connecting. Even if your loved one doesn’t remember the moment tomorrow, the happiness, comfort, and love they feel right now still matter.
