Due to a planned power outage, the Dulles South Recreation and Community Center will have a delayed opening on Wednesday, August 12, 2026. As a result, the center will open at 7:00 a.m. on August 12. The planned power outage is weather permitting and may be rescheduled.

The center’s spa is scheduled to open at 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday, while the leisure pool will open at its regular time of 9:00 a.m.

As a reminder, the competition pool will be closed for the center’s annual maintenance beginning on Monday, August 10. You can learn more about the temporary closure of portions of the facility for scheduled annual maintenance at loudoun.gov/PRCSNews.

The Dulles South Senior Center schedule will not be impacted by the planned power outage. The center will be open during its regularly scheduled hours, from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., on Wednesday, August 12

Check out these amazing wildlife sightings caught on camera at Banshee Reeks Nature Preserve.

The preserve is located at 21085 The Woods Road, Leesburg, and is a designated Virginia Treasure. Only a short drive from downtown Leesburg, the preserve is nestled alongside two miles of Goose Creek, a State Scenic River. The preserve’s 695 acres of forests, fields, ponds, and streams provide residents with the chance to explore and experience the exceptional beauty of Loudoun’s natural habitats, wetlands, and waterways.

The Loudoun County Department of Parks, Recreation and Community Services (PRCS) announces the upcoming opening of the Arts and Culture Grant Program, a new funding opportunity designed to support and expand arts and culture experiences for residents and visitors throughout Loudoun County. Applications for the program will open on Monday, August 10, 2026, at 9:00 a.m. and must be submitted by Tuesday, September 22, 2026, at 12:00 p.m. EST. The grant period will run from January 1, 2027, through June 30, 2027.

The Arts and Culture Grant Program reflects Loudoun County’s vision of becoming a thriving arts and culture destination where the arts contribute to economic growth, community health, and overall well-being. Through this initiative, PRCS seeks to connect with eligible organizations to deliver high-quality arts programming, expand access to meaningful arts experiences, and strengthen the local arts ecosystem.

The grant will support both operational and project-based proposals. Organizations may request grant awards ranging from $5,000 up to $15,000, and no matching funds are required for this opportunity. Funding decisions will consider the proposed project’s scope, impact and feasibility, as described in the application. Loudoun County funds a range of artistic disciplines, generally defined as the performing, visual, and literary arts.

Eligibility

This grant opportunity is intended exclusively for organizations; individuals are not eligible to apply. Eligible applicants include nonprofit 501(c)(3) organizations, units of local government, federally recognized tribes or tribal communities, and organizations applying through a qualified fiscal sponsor or fiscal agent. Each applicant organization may submit only one application for the grant period.

Eligible organizations must submit their applications by Tuesday, September 22, 2026. Complete application details, including program guidelines and instructions, are available at loudoun.gov/ArtsAndCultureGrants.

The second phase of County’s ecological restoration project at Franklin Park is scheduled to get underway this week. Phase I restored seven acres of county park land by removing invasive autumn olive and reestablishing native habitat. Phase II will remove an additional six acres of autumn olive and reestablish a native meadow bordered by a native forest buffer. Details here: https://bit.ly/3ROSyvu

The Claude Moore Recreation and Community Center leisure pool will be closed tomorrow (Tuesday, August 4, 2026), for scheduled repairs. The leisure pool is anticipated to reopen at 9:00 a.m. on Wednesday, August 5.
The temporary closure will only affect the leisure pool. The center’s spa and competition pool will remain open to patrons. All swim classes scheduled at the leisure pool will be moved to the competition pool.
During the leisure pool closure, please visit similar alternative aquatics amenities through Loudoun County Parks, Recreation and Community Services (PRCS). The Ashburn Recreation and Community Center and the Dulles South Recreation and Community Center both offer indoor leisure pools. PRCS outdoor pools are located at Franklin Park and the Lovettsville Community Center.

Calling all teen musicians! Are you looking for an opportunity to showcase your talent on a big stage? Loudoun’s Battle of the Bands is back, and we are seeking the best teen acts to compete in this annual event.

The Battle of the Bands competition has been a cornerstone of the local music scene in Loudoun County for over two decades. Organized by the Loudoun County Department of Parks, Recreation and Community Services (PRCS), Loudoun Youth, Inc., and the Loudoun County Youth Advisory Council (YAC), the competition supports YAC's "for teens, by teens" mission.

The application for Battle of the Bands is now available online at loudoun.gov/Teens through Monday, August 31, 2026, at 5:00 p.m. The competition is limited to 30 acts.

The Battle of the Bands provides a 100% free platform for teen musicians to play for a live audience at a popular venue with professional sound mixing. In addition to exclusive prizes for the winning acts, the program provides useful feedback to the bands/acts from a panel of industry experts who judge the competition with a skilled ear. Many former competitors have credited their success to the lessons learned during the Battle of the Bands. Some have gone on to perform at major events such as the Vans Warped Tour, American Idol, and even opened for Bon Jovi at the Capital One Arena.
