What if the plan for Mom is basically… “we’ll figure it out”?

That can work right up until a fall, hospital stay, dementia diagnosis, or sudden change in care needs turns “later” into “right now.” Then families are trying to understand care options, legal documents, long-term care costs, and who has authority to make decisions—all at once.

Our September 30 seminar is about having those conversations before the decisions become urgent. Estate planning. Long-term care. Asset protection. And the questions families often don’t realize they need to ask until something happens.

VA Aid & Attendance is one of those benefits families often hear about only after they’ve already started paying for care.

For eligible veterans and surviving spouses, Aid & Attendance may provide additional monthly benefits when help is needed with activities of daily living or certain care needs. But eligibility involves more than serving in the military, and families should understand the rules before making financial or planning decisions based on assumptions.

If a veteran or surviving spouse in your family is beginning to need more support, it’s worth finding out whether this benefit belongs in the conversation.

“Wonderful discussion! Very helpful, personable, and professional. Thank you!” ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

Thank you, Travis. We love the word discussion here because that’s exactly what good planning should feel like. You’re not supposed to sit quietly while someone talks legal language at you. Ask questions. Tell us what worries you. Tell us what you want to protect. Tell us what you don’t understand yet.

That conversation is where a plan actually begins.

Today is for the people who built something worth protecting. 🇺🇸

A career. A business. A home. Savings built paycheck by paycheck. A family that grew around all of it. Labor Day celebrates the work, but it’s also a pretty good reminder of what decades of that work can create.

Whatever today looks like for your family—a cookout, a quiet Monday, or one last summer weekend—we hope you get a chance to enjoy some of what all that hard work was for.

Happy Labor Day from The Legacy Elder Law Center.

We’re growing—and the right person matters more to us than simply filling a seat.

Working in elder law means supporting people through some of the biggest transitions of their lives. That takes skill, certainly. It also takes patience, curiosity, empathy, and the ability to make complicated things feel a little less complicated.

If that sounds like the kind of work—and the kind of team—you’d like to be part of, keep an eye on opportunities with The Legacy Elder Law Center.

A legal document can look official and still be completely wrong for your family.

That’s the danger of relying on an online estate-planning form. The form doesn’t know you’re in a second marriage. It doesn’t know one child should not manage money. It doesn’t know you own property in another state or that someone you love has special needs. And it can’t stop halfway through and say, “Before you answer that, there’s something you need to understand.”

Rory explains why the document itself is only part of estate planning in this video:

Do you actually know the plan?

Not where the documents are. Not whether you “have a Will somewhere.” The actual plan. Who can act for you? What happens if long-term care becomes necessary? What could that care cost? Does the estate plan you created years ago still fit the life you have today?

These are the conversations we’re having at our September 30 seminar in Leesburg. Join The Legacy Elder Law Center for a practical discussion about estate planning, elder law, long-term care, and protecting the people and things that matter most.

Your mom is being discharged tomorrow. Everyone is relieved. Then someone asks: “Okay…who’s handling everything when she gets home?”

The medication list changed. There are follow-up appointments to schedule. Maybe the house needs equipment. One sibling lives nearby, another lives three states away, and nobody is completely sure what the discharge instructions actually mean.

This is exactly where GuideWISE can help—organizing next steps, coordinating care, advocating for your loved one, and helping the family understand what needs attention now versus what can wait.

“Extremely knowledgeable and helpful! Great communication throughout our initial consultation.” ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

Thank you, Stephanie, for trusting our team with that first conversation. An initial consultation should give you something you didn’t have when you walked in: a clearer understanding of where you are, what your options are, and what may need to happen next.

You don’t need to arrive knowing all the right questions. Bring the ones you have. We’ll start there.

September is here—and somehow the last four months of the year always move FAST. 🍂

If updating your estate plan has been sitting on the “we really need to do that” list, this is a good month to move it to the actual calendar. A marriage, divorce, new grandchild, retirement, move, health change, or simply the passage of time can leave an older plan looking very different from your life today.

You don’t have to know what needs changing before you call. That’s part of the conversation.
