Jeffery Lynn Garner, 62, of DeRidder, Louisiana, passed away tragically on August 30, 2026, in DeRidder. He was born on March 27, 1964, in DeRidder to the late Leo James Garner and Bobbie Faye Andrews Garner.

Jeff was a loving father, grandfather, brother, and friend who never met a stranger. He loved his family dearly and treasured every opportunity to spend time with them. He had a warm, energetic personality and was known for his kindness, compassion, and willingness to help others. Jeff always seemed to have a smile on his face and had a special way of making the people around him feel welcome.

Some of Jeff’s happiest moments were the simple ones—sitting and swinging on the porch, visiting with family and friends, and enjoying the company of the people he loved. He truly loved people and the interaction he shared with them. His favorite pastimes included riding four-wheelers and canoeing, and he enjoyed any opportunity to get outdoors and make memories.

Jeff’s life will forever be cherished by his two daughters, Elaine Garner Reeves of DeRidder and Mendi Wiersma and husband, Jeff, of out of state; his brother, Charles Owen Garner of Houma, Louisiana; three sisters, Reda Faye DeMary of Lake Charles, Louisiana, Peggy Ann Garner Dronet of Jackson, Mississippi, and Helen Kay Garner Ritter of Kinder, Louisiana; six grandchildren, Ramond D’Lane Garner, Justin Joseph Garner, Arieona Avery’l Garner, Diamond Joe’lee Garner, Leros Wade Garner, and...

Mable Martin Strickland was born on August 29, 1928, in Zwolle, Louisiana. She passed away on August 30, 2026 in Many, Louisiana.

She was preceded in death by her parents Joseph and Maggie Taylor Martin; husband, Johnnie Strickland; son, Rodney L. Strickland; daughter, Glenda R. Jeane; son-in-law, J.W. Jeane; grandson, John Matthew Strickland; brothers, J. L. Martin and J.B. Martin and sisters, Edna, Annie, Marie and Yvonne.

She is survived by her daughter-in-law, Charlotte Strickland (Charles) Brock; grandchildren, Daphne (Jim) Nafe, Daryl (Sandy) Jeane, Dawn (Rachael) Jeane, Monica Strickland, Nathan (Crystal) Strickland and Brittany (Timmy) Jeane; 12 great grandchildren and 2 great great grandchildren.

Mrs. Strickland was the oldest living member at Cold Springs Baptist Church.
Funeral services will be held on Thursday, September 3, 2026 at 2:00 P.M. at Cold Springs Baptist Church in Anacoco. Visitation will begin at 10:00 A.M. until time of service at the church. Burial will follow in the Cold Springs Cemetery.

The Life & Legacy of Mr. William Matlock

Mr. William Matlock was born on April 3, 1951, in Shreveport, Louisiana, to the union of Raymond and Armenia Matlock. Affectionately known to his family as “Woot,” William lived a life marked by strength, service, dedication, and a selfless willingness to care for those around him.

William graduated from Bumpham High School in Bradley, Arkansas, in 1969. During his school years, he participated in band and basketball. Following graduation, William answered the call to serve his country by joining the United States Army, beginning what would become an honorable 21-year military career.

Throughout his years of service, William served in Vietnam, Korea, Panama, and Iraq, in addition to traveling to numerous places throughout the world. His military career was a testament to his courage, discipline, sacrifice, and commitment to his country. In 1994, after more than two decades of dedicated service, William retired from the United States Army, having attained the rank of Sergeant First Class. It is safe to say that he served his country—and served it well.

John Adam Carroll, born on August 10, 1977, in Lake Charles, Louisiana, passed away on August 29, 2026. He was the beloved son of Johnny Ray Carroll and the late Brenda Lea Dowden.

Adam is preceded in death by his son Triston O’Banion, his mother Brenda Lea Dowden, and Rayna O’Banion, mother of his children.

He is survived by his loving companion of ten years, Sara Martin of Pitkin, Louisiana; his daughter Zoe O’Banion of Pitkin, Louisiana; sons Sean O’Banion of Florida, Seth O’Banion of Buna, Texas, and Gabriel O’Banion of Pitkin; step-daughter Abigail Dowden and husband Clayton of Leesville, Louisiana; and stepson Caleb Ingalls of Missouri. John also leaves behind his father, Johnny Carroll and bonus mom Alice, of Pitkin, Louisiana; sister, Naomi Burgess and husband Russell, of Longville, Louisiana; brother, David Carroll and wife Becky, of Pitkin, Louisiana; six granddaughters, one grandson, and many nieces, nephews, other family members, and friends.

Adam spent much of his life working at his Uncle Brian’s sawmills. He enjoyed golfing, BBQing, music, and time spent with loved ones, especially after a hard day’s work and on weekends.

Visitation will be held on September 1, 2026, at Simmons Mill UPC from 11:00 AM until the time of service at 2:00 PM.

Funeral services will follow at 2:00 PM, officiated by Rev. J.R. Dowden and Rev. Randall Martin, under the direction of Labby Memorial Funeral Home.

Barbara Ann Bond, 81, of DeRidder, Louisiana, passed away peacefully on August 27, 2026, in Many, Louisiana. She was born on July 15, 1945, in DeRidder, Louisiana, to Percy Lee Scarborough and Lillie Smith Scarborough.

Barbara was a loving and devoted woman whose greatest joy was her family. She was deeply family-oriented and cherished every opportunity to spend time with those she loved. She was known for her witty personality, outgoing spirit, and faithful heart. Barbara had a way of bringing laughter and warmth wherever she went, and the love she gave so freely will continue to live on in the hearts of all who knew her.

Barbara had many talents and hobbies that brought her happiness throughout her life. She loved painting, gardening, sewing, and crocheting. Whether she was creating something beautiful with her hands, tending to her garden, or spending time with family, Barbara found joy in the simple things that made life special.

She was preceded in death by her spouses: Ansley L. Bond and Douglas M. Schales. Also preceding Mrs. Bond in death were her parents, Percy Lee Scarborough and Lillie Smith Scarborough; her son, Christopher Schales; her brothers, Kenneth “Bud” Scarborough and William “Bill” Scarborough; sister-in-law, Vivian Scarborough; sister, Becky Wright; brother-in-law, Richard Wright. Additionally, she was preceded in death by grandchildren: Catlin Norred, Brendan Schales, and Grant Schales.

Mrs. Linda Marie Price Johnson, Sherman was born 2 March 1951 in New Orleans, La.
She was the daughter of Allen Nelson Price and Ledoria Anderson. She departed this
life on Wednesday 26, August 2026 in Leesville, Louisiana.

Linda was a member of the Bilbo and Roberts Church Of Christ. She was a faithful member until her health begin to fail. Linda graduated from George Washington Carver High School in DeRidder in 1969. She furthered her education by attending flight school in Kansas City Kansas.

Linda was preceded in death by her mother, father, granddaughter, grandparents, and aunt (Marion Mitchell).

Linda leaves to cherish her life and memory to her husband Samuel Sherman, One sister Cynthia A. Smith, (Robert), one son Vick L. Johnson (Michelle), One adopted sister Cathy Robertson (Gerald) one uncle Charles Mitchell, and one aunt Alice Banks. Her extended family includes four daughters; Demetria Shaw, Amber Sherman, LaParis Sherman, Jalesha Busby. Three sister-in-laws; Maxie Richard, Joyce McCray, Mona Gray. Two brother-in-laws, Cedric Richard and Jeffery Sherman. Several grandchildren, great grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, September 1, 2026 at 10:00 A.M. at Church of Christ at DeRidder. Burial will follow in the Central Louisiana Veterans Cemetery.
