When summer hits and you’re pregnant, the biggest goals are to stay cool, stay hydrated, and avoid overheating. Pregnancy naturally raises your body temperature, and hot weather can make you feel more tired, swollen, and uncomfortable.

Here are some tips:

☀️ Stay hydrated

* Drink water throughout the day, even if you don’t feel thirsty.
* Add electrolytes occasionally if you’re sweating a lot.
* Eat water-rich foods like watermelon, cucumbers, oranges, and strawberries.

☀️ Avoid overheating

* Stay indoors during the hottest part of the day (usually 10 a.m.–4 p.m.).
* Use fans, air conditioning, or cooling towels.
* Wear lightweight, loose-fitting clothing.

☀️ Protect yourself from the sun

* Wear sunscreen (SPF 30 or higher).
* Use a wide-brimmed hat and sunglasses.
* Seek shade whenever possible.

☀️ Watch for swelling

* Elevate your feet when resting.
* Avoid standing for long periods.
* Comfortable shoes can help with foot swelling.

☀️ Exercise safely

* Walk in the early morning or evening when temperatures are cooler.
* Stop and rest if you feel dizzy, short of breath, or overheated.

🚨 Call your healthcare provider if you experience:

* Dizziness or fainting
* Severe headache
* Signs of dehydration (dark urine, very little urine, dry mouth)
* Contractions that don’t stop with rest and hydration
* Decreased fetal movement

As a doula, I will remind pregnant moms that summer discomfort is common, but feeling extremely hot, dizzy, or unable to cool down isn’t something to ignore. Staying hydrated and listening to their body is key. 💜

Man, how I miss these moments when she was little. 🥹💜

It feels like just yesterday she was holding my hand, needing me for everything, and looking at the world with those big curious eyes. Now she’s growing into such a beautiful, smart, independent young lady, and while I am beyond proud of the person she is becoming, a part of me misses those little girl days.

The cuddles, the giggles, the bedtime stories, and all the little moments that seemed so ordinary at the time but now mean so much. Watching her grow has been one of the greatest blessings of my life. Time truly flies, so I’m learning to cherish every stage, every memory, and every moment with my baby girl.

Forever my little girl, no matter how big she gets. ❤️

The day I became a Birth and Postpartum Doula, I’m not going to lie I was nervous. Stepping into something so meaningful and important came with a lot of emotions. But the more I studied, learned, and educated myself, the more my passion began to grow. Every piece of information grabbed my attention and confirmed that this was something I was truly meant to do.

I’ve always loved connecting with people, talking to them, and simply being there for others during vulnerable moments in their lives. Supporting, comforting, and encouraging people has always come naturally to me. But as a Black American woman, becoming a doula became even deeper than just a career path it became personal.

Knowing the statistics surrounding Black maternal health, the lack of support many women face, and the importance of feeling heard, seen, protected, and advocated for during pregnancy, birth, and postpartum pushed me even more. This work is about love, education, support, and helping families feel empowered during one of the most life-changing moments of their lives.

Being a doula is not just something I do it’s something I carry in my heart. 🤎

Photo is not mine.

But in this photo, you see a beautiful pregnant mommy surrounded by her village full of love, comfort, and support. Moments like this are so powerful because pregnancy and birth are not meant to be walked through alone. You can feel the warmth, joy, and reassurance in this image.

One of the women could possibly be her doula or midwife, helping guide and support her throughout her journey. A doula provides emotional, physical, and educational support during pregnancy, labor, and postpartum, while a midwife provides medical care throughout the birthing experience. Together with family and friends, they help create a safe, loving environment for mom and baby.

This picture truly represents the beauty of Black maternal support, sisterhood, and community. 🤎

This image captures a powerful labor moment filled with support, strength, and connection. The birthing mother appears to be leaning forward during a contraction while receiving physical and emotional support from both her partner and doula. Her body language suggests she is working through intense waves of labor, using movement and touch for comfort and grounding.

As a doula, my role in moments like this is to provide continuous support emotionally, physically, and mentally throughout labor and birth. I help create a calm environment while encouraging the birthing mother through each contraction with reassurance, comfort measures, and guidance.

In this moment, support may include:

* Counter pressure on the lower back to help relieve contraction discomfort
* Encouraging breathing techniques to help her stay focused and relaxed
* Providing emotional reassurance and words of encouragement
* Helping her change positions to support labor progression and comfort
* Supporting the partner so they also feel confident and involved in the birth experience
* Creating a safe, calm, and empowering atmosphere where the mother feels heard and supported

Birth is not just physical — it is emotional and transformational. As a doula, I stand beside families during some of the most vulnerable and powerful moments of their lives, helping them feel supported, informed, and never alone throughout the journey.

For most of human history, women didn’t give birth lying down ! !

They squatted.
They knelt.
They moved.

Today about 80% of Western births happen flat on the back, often working against gravity.

But position can change pelvic space, comfort, and how labour progresses.
Birth was never designed to be one position.
What position did you give birth in ?

Send this to a mama to be who deserves to know she has options 🩷
