I need to say this because sometimes the stigma is LOUDER than the recovery.
It is no secret that the people behind Scars to Strength are in recovery. Our partners are in recovery. Our staff are in recovery. The people pouring into this place every single day KNOW what addiction looks like because some of us have LIVED IT.
And I refuse to ever be embarrassed by that.
Some of the same people society once counted out are now business owners, counselors, leaders, parents, mentors, advocates, employees, and people showing up EVERY SINGLE DAY for somebody else.
Read that again.
The people you thought addiction would destroy are now helping save lives.
And what makes me emotional is knowing how much we pour into this community without asking for anything in return. Every event. Every piece of clothing. Every meal. Every snack. Every toy. Every resource. Every time we help somebody who doesn’t have it—we are reaching into OUR OWN POCKETS.
There is no big funding source behind us.
There is no huge check coming.
There is no organization quietly paying for everything you see us doing.
IT’S US.
And we don’t say that to boast but for understanding this is out of LOVE.
Because this was NEVER about looking good.
It was NEVER about recognition.
It was NEVER about proving anything to anybody.
It was about remembering what it felt like when WE needed somebody.
So yes, some of us have addiction in our story.
But addiction wasn’t the end of the damn story.
And if you can look at somebody who fought their way out of addiction, rebuilt their life, became successful, turned around and started helping other people—and STILL find something negative to say because of who they USED to be…
YOU are part of the stigma.
YOU are part of the problem.
Because recovery should be CELEBRATED, not held over someone’s head for the rest of their life.
We don’t hide recovery here.
WE ARE PROUD OF IT.
We are living proof that your worst days don’t get to decide the rest of your life.
This is why we say PAIN 2 PURPOSE.
This is why we say SCARS TO STRENGTH.
Because we didn’t just put those words on a wall.
WE LIVED THEM. ❤️🔥❤️🖤💛
