Massage is so much more than working out tight muscles. ❤️
We talk a lot about how massage helps relieve pain, reduce stress, and ease tension. But there’s another side of massage that I wish more people understood.
It helps us reconnect with ourselves.
Think about it.
How much of your day do you spend running on autopilot? Between work, family, responsibilities, technology, and that never-ending mental to-do list, we’re constantly moving from one thing to the next.
And somewhere along the way, we stop listening to our own bodies.
We ignore the tension building in our shoulders. The exhaustion we’re pushing through. The shallow breathing. The little signals telling us we need to slow down.
Our bodies are communicating with us all day long. We’ve just become really good at tuning them out.
There’s actually a term for our ability to recognize what’s happening inside our bodies: interoceptive awareness.
And one of the beautiful things about therapeutic massage is that it creates an opportunity to reconnect with those sensations.
To notice where you’re holding tension.
To recognize what relaxation actually feels like.
To take a deep breath without rushing to the next thing.
To simply BE PRESENT in your own body.
As a massage therapist, I don’t believe my work is just about helping muscles feel better. It’s about creating a space where you can slow down, feel safe, and give your body the attention it deserves.
Because sometimes the most powerful thing we can do for ourselves isn’t pushing harder.
It’s learning to listen.
And that, my friends, is why I believe massage is an important part of whole-body wellness, not just an occasional indulgence.
