Heart of Maine Doula Program A comprehensive, Maine-specific doula training program where you simply enroll and start learning —no barriers, no hidden costs.

12/10/2026

Funding is being set aside for BIPOC, bilingual, and income eligible
community members who are ready to step to train with us and step into birth work!

The families we serve deserve doulas who reflect them, speak their language, and understand their lives. We are working to make sure the path to this work is open to the people who should be on it.

More info to come. Stay close!

We are hosting three casual Ask Us Anything chats, and they are exclusive to our waitlist. No slides, no sales pitch. Just the founders of the Heart of Maine Doula Program, your questions, and a group of future doulas who care about the same things you do.

One training. Both fields, or either one.

You don't need two separate trainings to work as a birth doula, a postpartum doula, or both. Some doulas offer both services and some choose just one. Whichever way you lean, this program prepares you for each, and we'll support you as you enter the field and learn how to manage your workload while you navigate that decision.

You'll learn to support families through labor and birth, and through the weeks after a baby arrives. That means comfort measures, advocacy, newborn care guidance, feeding support, and showing up steady in a family's home. You'll finish ready to do the work.

MaineCare begins covering doula services in 2028, and Maine needs more trained birth and postpartum doulas to meet that demand.

Registration and applications for Scholarships opens November 1. Join the waitlist now so you're first in line!

Here's the scoop on our first cohort, all in one place. Ten Saturday sessions, a mix of in person in Auburn and live webinars on Zoom, and a program built to get you ready to work.

You'll also leave with a manual that covers everything we teach, plus more to reference long after class ends. It includes guidance on networking, finding local resources, and working in Maine birthing units, so you're not figuring it out alone on your first client.

When you finish, the support keeps going. You'll have ongoing mentorship with multiple opportunities each month and a free year with Community Doulas, so you're never starting from zero. We're looking for people committed to supporting MaineCare families as coverage for doula services begins in 2028.

Applications open November 1, with 100% scholarships available! Join the now so you're first in line. Link in bio.

If you've talked to me for more than five minutes, you've probably heard me gush about how much I love mentoring new doulas. There's nothing like watching someone go from "I think I want to do this?" to showing up at their first birth like they were born for it (pun very much intended).

We are a nonprofit because we believe access to doula care should never come down to who can afford it. Being a nonprofit means we can put grant money into keeping the training accessible instead of pricing it for profit.

You can find an online doula training for $1,000. But that will not show you how to be a doula, or teach you the nuances of doing this work in Maine. This matters to us on a fundamental level.

We are so proud to be building this in Maine, with grant funded trainings coming to the Lewiston/Auburn area in early 2027!

Our format and pacing isn't an accident. Our director, Laurie, spent years in education administration before she was a doula, and that background shapes how this program is built. We're not just doulas training doulas. Laurie is an actual teacher who brings her years of learned experience and understanding of how people actually learn. It shows in every part of this schedule.
