Optometric Associates Home of Healthier Eyes

Optometric Associates Home of Healthier Eyes Home of Healthier Eyes! We take pride in our staff's extensive eye care training, knowledge, and expertise.

Optometric Associates appreciates each one of our patients and their individual vision needs. Vision is the most precious of the five senses; ask anyone who has experienced normal sight to give it up and almost no one would choose to sacrifice vision. Science has proven that information from the visual pathway is shared throughout 60% of the entire brain not just the part of the brain responsible

for vision. This is why patients with head injuries, who experience problems with balance, can be helped by wearing special glasses which alter the way visual information is being processed by the traumatized brain. We believe that with healthier eyes our patients can have happier lives. Our exams provide each patient with the unique information they need to not only have a clear vision, but to work with greater efficiency, better enjoy the beauty of our great state of Maine, and preserve the health and function of their eyes from the ocular surface to peripheral retina. We use our clinical skills and the science of optometry to recommend lenses and products that are specifically designed and manufactured by our partner lab/optical to help you achieve your vision goals and improve your quality of life.

Happy 4th of July! 🇺🇸

In honor of the official holiday our office is currently closed today July 3rd. We will reopen on Monday for normal business hours.

While you're out enjoying the sunshine at the barbecue, on the water, or waiting for the big firework show tonight, don't forget to protect your eyes! 🕶️✨

High UV rays can take a toll, so make sure you and your family are rocking your UV-blocking sunglasses today. And if you're handling sparklers, remember to keep them at arm's length to keep those eyes safe.

Have a wonderful, bright, and safe Independence Day!

We tell patients every day a about this not so rare risk factor for making glaucoma worse.

Sleep Apnea Associated with Glaucoma

However, researchers say the higher hazard observed in CPAP users does not definitively establish that the therapy itself increases or decreases risk.

The finding that both treated and untreated OSA groups are at higher risk for glaucoma suggests that all patients with OSA may warrant closer ophthalmic attention. The persistence of elevated risk in the treatment group is also consistent with the possibility that OSA contributes to glaucoma through mechanisms beyond IOP. Proposed pathways include vascular dysregulation related to intermittent hypoxia, which may increase optic nerve vulnerability.

Think all eye drops are created equal? Think again. 👁️👇

If you’re reaching for generic multi-symptom or redness-relief drops (like Visine or Naphcon) to fight seasonal allergies, you could be setting yourself up for a cycle of chronic redness.

These drops narrow the blood vessels on the surface of your eye. Once they wear off, the vessels often bounce back even larger—causing "rebound redness." Plus, they don't stop the actual allergic reaction.

Instead, look for selective, targeted therapies like Pataday. They lock down the specific cells responsible for the itching and swelling, giving you long-lasting relief without the nasty side effects.

Your eyes deserve targeted treatment. Drop a comment or send us a message if you need help finding the right relief this season!

The number one complaint from almost every patient we see is how horrible the head lights are when driving. It doesn't matter if they are 16 or 60 these insanely bright headlights are a real issue for driving and visual comfort.
