Nursemaid's Elbow, also known as radial head subluxation, is a common injury among young children that can occur during everyday interactions and transitions in childcare settings. This training provides early childhood professionals with the knowledge and skills needed to recognize, prevent, and respond appropriately to this injury.
Participants will learn what Nursemaid's Elbow is, why young children are particularly susceptible to this injury, and how common childcare practices such as pulling, lifting, or guiding children by the arms can contribute to its occurrence. The training also explores effective prevention strategies, proper supervision techniques, and safe handling practices that help reduce the risk of injury.
In addition, participants will examine the signs and symptoms of Nursemaid's Elbow, appropriate response procedures, documentation requirements, and best practices for communicating with families when an injury is suspected. Emphasis is placed on maintaining child safety, providing professional care, and ensuring timely medical evaluation when necessary.
This training is designed for licensed childcare providers, directors, teachers, assistant teachers, and caregivers seeking to strengthen their knowledge of injury prevention and child safety practices in accordance with Texas Child Care Licensing expectations.
