Nuyou Nutrition Counseling

Nuyou Nutrition Counseling I am an anti-diet dietitian who believes that you can be healthy at ANY size.

Rather than shrink you, I empower clients to break the cycle of dieting by teaching them to nourish their bodies well.

This is my first under a free bar in almost a year.
A year ago I could squat 225.
Only problem was I was in constant pain, couldn’t bend over without peeing, bled constantly and suffered 1-2 migraines per week.
Finally, about 10 months ago I bit the bullet and has a hysterectomy. I was told I’d be back in the gym in 3-4 months.. I wasn’t. I was barely surviving. EVERYTHING caused pain. I could barely get myself to and from work without wanting to cry. I had to plan household chores for days when I didn’t have to drive anywhere, and I could lie flat for a minimum of 4 hours afterwards. Social events were a nightmare because I couldn’t sit or stand comfortably for more than 30 minutes. I was so exhausted that I cried every single morning getting up for work because all I wanted to do was sleep.
But finally, slowly, things started to shift. I went pelvic floor therapy, I worked with my awesome trainer to find exercises I COULD do without pain. And I fought. Tooth and nail. To get back to the things that I love.
In this video you see me humbly squatting 65 lbs. What you don’t see is the raw grit and determination it took to get there.
And at the end of the day it’s not even about the bar. It’s about the fact that I bathed my dogs and mopped my floors yesterday and had no trouble driving to work, working AND going to the gym today. It’s about the fact that I could drive an hour to a friend’s dogs birthday party and sit on a patio with my friends, drive an hour home and feel fine the next day. So many little moments that were masked by excruciating pain for so long.
So hell yea I’m proud of these 65 lbs and you should be proud of wherever you are too. Social media is great at keeping us connected but awful in forcing us to compare ourselves to each other. No one else knows your story. No one knows what it took to get where you are right now. Be proud of that. Because I am. And I’m rooting for you too 💕

To be clear- this is the BEST run I’ve had in well over a year.
A year of trauma
A year of physical challenges including a major surgery.
When I finally could start back- it sucked. I was winded, my legs hurt, I’m carrying more weight than my body is used to. I was chafed, sticky and defeated.
But I plodded along anyway. Because I knew if I did it would eventually feel better. And I was right. It does.
I didn’t show up to lose weight. I didn’t show up to prove any kind of stat. I showed up because that’s what I’ve always done. What I always will do.
Keep showing up for you 💕🫶🏻

I remember the day I realized my heart was healing
The first time someone said something off putting and without hesitation I said to myself “that has nothing to do with me”
Because it didn’t. It never had.
But because I didn’t know any better I internalized so much
Made it my responsibility to avoid the tripwires and land mines
To be the cause of peace and joy or to not exist at all
But that burden was never mine to bear
Because it was never about me.

This is what my gym looks like today.
Loud “kids”
Minimal equipment
Cluttered dresser
Probably more than one break to prevent the puppy from chewing something
Bear sweetly standing where I need to walk
But movement is movement.
Showing up for myself builds confidence
We DONT all have the same 24 hours. But we can usually make a plan with what we do have.
You got this. I believe in you 💪🏻

Gentle reminder that recovery is a marathon, not a sprint.
5 months ago I had a pelvic organ removed. They told me recovery would be 6-12 weeks. And that was accurate in terms of my normal ADLs.
Physical challenge has been another story. I’m still restricted on weight, and my endurance is non existent. Not to mention I’m still sporadically having debilitating pain (it’s common- working through it with pelvic floor PT).
I could choose to be frustrated with this run time but I’m not. I’m grateful that I can run at all. I’m grateful that I was pain free. I’m grateful that I didn’t have to turn around because I was bleeding too heavily to continue.
Progress is not linear. Relearning how to function after a major surgery is hard. Your body is amazing and you’re doing better than you think 💕

It doesn’t have to make sense. It just has to fill your belly 🫶🏻
