Hi! My name is Dr. Stephanie Gusler. I am a clinical child psychologist and assistant professor at the UK Center on Trauma and Children. I am also a member of the Institute on Fostering Resilience team. I completed my PhD from the University of Kansas in 2021 and joined CTAC that same year. I am committed to the integration of clinical application and research, providing trauma-informed therapy for children and families in addition to conducting research into innovative solutions for addressing intergenerational trauma risk.

I am passionate about expanding mental health access and supports. I enjoy thinking of creative ways to enhance services and supporting other professionals in their efforts to effectively implement evidence-based trauma interventions.

Outside of work, I love reading and spending time with my husband and our two mischievous cats.

Hello! I’m Dr. Christina Howard. I graduated from Georgetown College before moving to Louisville for all of my medical training including medical school, Peds Residency, and Child Abuse Fellowship. After completing my education, I came to UK and started the Division of Pediatric Forensic Medicine where we do evaluations for suspected child maltreatment. I also serve as consultant for the state on child fatality review and pediatric injury prevention.

My passion for the Institute on Fostering Resilience came from knowing what the research shows about the long-term outcomes of victims of child maltreatment. I feel that care should go beyond the diagnosis. When I see a child at four months of age with five ACES already, I want to do everything in my power to help that child become resilient.

Outside of kids’ activities, one of my favorite things to do is to bake and travel. I have loved traveling to National Parks recently with my family, most notably an amazing trip to Zion National Park. We have now had several family vacations traveling to other national parks.
