It’s back-to-school time again! 📖During this busy time of finding school supplies, clothes, and backpacks, don’t forget about these important safety precautions if your kids have allergies or asthma:

✔️ Submit the proper health forms with the school. List all health conditions, even if they seem common or minor.

✔️ Check expiration dates on all prescription medications (epinephrine auto-injectors, rescue inhalers, etc.) that will be supplied to the school.

✔️ Your allergist may need to provide information, their signature, or new prescriptions. Be sure to contact the doctor’s office early enough in advance.

✔️ If supplying epinephrine auto-injectors to the school, be sure to have enough for the teachers and bus drivers to carry. Check with the school for the recommended number.

✔️ Fill in new forms each year. Even if the child's health hasn’t changed, don’t assume the school will have information on file from last year.

With these things completed, you'll be ready for a fun and safe school year! For allergy and asthma testing and treatment call Bluegrass Allergy Care at 888-651-0055 or visit bluegrassallergycare.com.

Homemade fruit popsicles made with allergy-safe ingredients are a great way for both kids and parents to have fun and stay cool over the 4th of July weekend 🎉. Start with a selection of sliced fruit and fruit juice, lemon lime soda or dairy-free yogurt that are safe to eat for those in your family, or at your party, who have food allergies. Let the kids put their own fun or wild combinations of fruit 🍉 into a popsicle mold. Then pour in fruit juice, lemon lime soda or dairy-free yogurt to hold it all together and add an extra pop of flavor. Freeze the fruit pops for at least four hours and they will be ready to enjoy with your 4th of July celebration 😄!

Don’t let allergies interfere with family fun this summer. Call Bluegrass Allergy Care at 888-651-0055 or visit bluegrassallergycare.com.

It’s summer ☀️and Central Kentucky families are heading out for fun family vacations! Whether you are planning a big trip to someplace like Disneyland, New York, or a cruise, or just planning a small hop over to grandma’s house, remember these five tips to help keep your family healthy and safe 😊 while away from home:

1️⃣ Don’t post about your trip on social media until after you return.

2️⃣ Be sure everyone has water, sunscreen, hats and sunglasses for protection from the summer heat.

3️⃣ Discuss with your family what to do if someone becomes separated from your group.

4️⃣ Make sure everyone washes their hands or uses hand sanitizer before eating meals or snacks.

5️⃣ Before you go, check the expiration dates on all allergy medications and epinephrine injectors and contact your allergist if new ones are needed.

What’s causing my child’s rash? That’s a good question, and one we hear often at Bluegrass Allergy Care. Did you know that rashes can be caused by:

🍦 Food allergies
🌿 Plants
🧼 Lotions, laundry detergents, soaps, or sunscreen
💍 Metals found in jewelry
💧 Excessive exposure to water

And the list goes on and on. So to answer that tricky question of “What’s causing my child’s rash?”, the answer is to see an allergist. Only a thorough evaluation by an experienced allergist can reveal the cause of a rash and get you on the road to relief.

It’s springtime in Lexington, you are at the park with your child and they start coughing — again 😯. Most people don’t know that a persistent cough is a sign of asthma in children, especially if the cough is worse in the morning or at night. Asthma symptoms are similar to other childhood conditions, so it takes an experienced allergist 🩺 to determine if a child has asthma. At Bluegrass Allergy Care we have been helping Central Kentucky families manage asthma for over 25 years and specialize in treating children. Come see us if your child experiences any of these asthma symptoms:

🔹Persistent cough, especially at night or early morning
🔹Shortness of breath
🔹Rapid breathing
🔹Wheezing (a whistling sound when they exhale)

Asthma symptoms like these may happen often or only once in a while. Visit BluegrassAllergyCare.com or call 888-651-0055 to make an appointment so you and your child can take a breath of relief.

With the final weeks of school approaching, it’s time to enroll in summer camps! If your child has allergies, taking a few precautions can help ensure a fun and worry-free camp experience:

1) 📃Describe your child’s allergy and specific symptoms on the camp application form.

2) 💊Check the expiration date of all medications and get new ones if needed.

3) Remind your child to tell an adult immediately if they begin to feel an allergic reaction starting 😟, and always know where the emergency medication is, or which adults have access to it.

Lexington has many great summer camps lined up for 2026. Check them out at www.lexingtonky.gov/playing/camps/summer-camps.

Parents of children who play sports are an important part of the team 🏆. They get the kids to practice, provide their equipment, cheer them on at games and encourage them through losses 🤗. They give their student athletes everything they need to perform their best. Springtime sports like track and field, baseball and softball ⚾ come with the added challenge of being outside when pollen is thick in the air, triggering allergic reactions and taking the fun out of sports for both players and supporting family members.

For over 25 years Bluegrass Allergy Care has been helping Central Kentucky families find allergy relief so they can enjoy springtime activities and stay in the game 😀. Call (888) 651-0055 or visit bluegrassallergycare.com to make an appointment and score the winning run against allergies.
