Heartmath is an extensively vetted modality for anxiety, depression, combat fatigue, PTSD, etc. We use it for training our patients to balance their nervous system. Most people, after finding this training, wonder why we were never taught this technique at a very young age so that we could have learned much earlier how to overcome nervous tension. For most, anxiety takes control of us, and not the other way around. Ironically, it is not through more "thinking" that this new flow state of serene balance is learned. It is by feeling, breathing, and visualization. Curious? The Alice L. Walton School of Medicine is not your typical medical school. Out of more than 2,000 applicants, only 48 students were accepted, placing it among the most selective programs in the United States. The brilliance of this amazing child artist depicting the proceedings of her doctor’s visit with us is unfathomable. She illustrated the “before” and “after” so beautifully…more than any written review could ever express. It was a “play by play” of emotions shifting and hearts going from closed to open from start to finish. She created this art quickly and handed it to me as she finished each one, like a court-appointed artist at work. I am honored she gave me permission to share these masterpieces and even more honored that she felt lifted in this way. All glory goes to God.

Illness carried by ticks is something we see in our clinic commonly. This issue has flown under the radar of general practitioners and specialists alike because as doctors, we were barely taught any environmental medicine. At Wellsmart, we are trained in environmental medicine, wilderness medicine, and functional/integrative medicine… oh and also family medicine and ER medicine. So, we know well the gaps and blind spots that the health education system has, which cause our patients to suffer too long before they find this issue as a root cause of their fatigue, brain fog and feeling old before their time.

How to Truly "See" A Patient:

1. Ask for your heart to be open, before entering a patient's room.

2. Clear and center yourself.

3. Be watchful, in a state of empathy.

4. Remain in active listening silence.

5. Remain in the present moment completely.

6. Listen and feel the undercurrents behind the patient's words.

7. See the person as their best self.

8. Feel the emergence of the best solution for all.

9. Speak from the heart.

10. Give gratefulness and appreciation for the experience.

Happy Arbor Day! This is the day to celebrate trees.🌳🌲 Our clinic reveres plants and trees, from the many large office plants that we nourish, to my own Bonsai collection. A selection even "come to work" weekly from home and act as "greeters" in the foyer for patients. Even our front yard Black Locust tree, "Emerson," has a special place in our heart at the clinic. (Included are pictures of Halloween 2024 when I dressed as a "Tree Spirit.").
