Made a decision to turn our will and our lives over to the care of God as we understood Him.”

For many people, Step 3 is about surrendering control and accepting guidance instead of trying to force everything alone. It does not mean giving up responsibility — it means trusting a healthier path, support system, and process.

A simple way to think about Step 3:

* Let go of trying to control everything
* Trust the recovery process
* Follow guidance from sponsors, meetings, and principles
* Choose progress over pride or fear

The Step 3 prayer often used in AA is:

“God, I offer myself to Thee — to build with me and to do with me as Thou wilt. Relieve me of the bo***ge of self, that I may better do Thy will…”

Many people personalize Step 3 in a way that fits their own beliefs and understanding.

Here’s a short recovery reflection you could use or share:

Step 3 reminds us that recovery is not about carrying everything alone. Strength comes when we stop fighting for control and start trusting the process, seeking guidance, and taking the next right step one day at a time.

Step 2 of Alcoholics Anonymous is:

“Came to believe that a Power greater than ourselves could restore us to sanity.”

This step is about hope.
After admitting in Step 1 that life has become unmanageable, Step 2 opens the door to believing change is possible. It does not require perfection, and it does not require having all the answers. It simply asks for willingness to believe that recovery, healing, and stability can happen.

Many people define a “Higher Power” differently:

* God
* Faith
* The AA group itself
* Recovery principles
* Family
* Purpose and hope

The important part is recognizing you do not have to carry recovery alone.

A simple reflection for Step 2:

“Maybe I do not have everything figured out today, but I believe a better life is possible.”

A recovery message you could share:

“Step 2 reminds us that hope returns before everything else does. Recovery begins when we believe healing is possible, even before we fully see it.”

Recovery begins with you — and with Step One of Alcoholics Anonymous:

“We admitted we were powerless over alcohol — that our lives had become unmanageable.”

Step One is not weakness.
It’s honesty. It’s the moment a person stops fighting reality and starts fighting for their life.

Recovery starts when denial ends.
When pride steps aside, healing has room to begin.
No one can work recovery for you — the decision has to come from within.

One honest step can change everything

Recovery doesn’t clock out on weekends, holidays, or hard nights.
Every single day is a chance to fight, heal, grow, and choose a different path.

Stay committed — even when nobody is watching.
Especially then. 💙
