Meet Katie Cotter, MS, CCC-SLP!

We asked how Katie became interested in working with people who stutter:

"In graduate school, I had a placement with a group of adults who stutter, which opened my eyes to stutter-affirming therapy, avoidance reduction, and the lived experience of many adults who stutter. After attending an NSA conference as a graduate student, I realized I was quite passionate about continuing work in this area of the field. I wanted to continue learning as I began my journey as a licensed clinician. As an SLP, I've had wonderful mentorship under Carrie Kerstein, MS, CCC-SLP, who has pointed me to many amazing resources to continue my stuttering education. Listening to both kids and adults who stutter, and learning about their lived experiences, has motivated me to continue learning and shaping my therapy approach with clients."

Meet Caroline Carreras, MS, CCC-SLP!

We asked how Caroline became interested in working with people who stutter:

"I became interested initially because of the overlap with voice therapy and reducing tension, as a clinician who is quite passionate about voice therapy. Then working closely with Carrie Kerstein, MS, CCC-SLP, I learned about how to incorporate more counseling and avoidance reduction aspects to stuttering therapy, and I loved the meaningful and impactful work that I was doing. I feel really strongly about shifting away from trying to achieve fluency and more about awareness and acceptance of stuttering and how to promote overall communication confidence, which is what I do more of now."

May is National Speech-Language-Hearing Month!

Caregivers in multilingual families often wonder if they should continue speaking a home language with their child when the child is showing signs of communication challenges. The answer is: yes! Multilingualism does NOT cause or worsen communication disorders, and families are strongly encouraged to use the language(s) they are most comfortable in when communicating with their child.
