Checking in, how does your mood change when you step on the scale?
Over 60% of you said your mood goes down....

Ever notice weight loss adds have someone smiling with excitement as they step on the scale?

Ever feel like, “ugh.... why have I never felt that way?” That’s what they want you to think. That’s how they want you to feel. They are banking 💰 on you feeling crummy so that they can well you some snake oil. Some sort of fat burning 💩 that won’t work, and then you’ll think it’s you.... so you go back and try something else. It’s a vicious cycle I help women break.

I also meet you there. Because I was there. Many women in my food freedom program were there too. They felt shameful and frustrated with the scale.

You get to link arms with women fearlessly chasing their goals and letting go of those struggles. Finally stepping into more confidence. More stability in their diet. Free from guilt or shame about the number on the scale.

I recommend that if the scale is causing this reaction, you pitch it. Today. Go throw it out. It’s not going to help you by obsessing.

Consider it as your first step toward finally getting your health back, and it starts with a mindset shift.

It starts by realizing your worth is not a number. Your health is not a number.

So step one... pitch that scale! No..... I didn’t say go hide it in a closet somewhere.... I said throw it out! 😉

Why does it seem like when you hop on the scale you either feel excited or worthless? It’s likely hurting your goals than helping them.

We give power over some numbers on the scale to tell us how “good” we’ve been or if we are allowed to eat a meal. Is the scale something that is hurting your success rather than helping it?

If you step on the scale and that number went up you might think...
🚨 “omg I gained weight...that’s horrible! I need to cut back today!”
It’s completely normally to have pounds of fluctuations. Your body can range in a healthy set of pounds not just one set number.

🚨 “omg the scale went up! I need to skip breakfast, I’m so frustrated.” Continuing to skip meals in the long term can lead to decrease in metabolism and muscle. Individuals who ate 3 protein rich meals a day had higher muscle volume than those who only had 1-2. Muscle is a contributor to your metabolic rate! So you can see how if you keep skipping to just lose weight.. your only harming.

🚨 “omg I didn’t lose any weight! I need to go harder at the gym. Why am I not shedding pounds?!”
Weight loss while trying to exercise will not always result in linear move downward. Increase in muscle is GOOD and the scale might be reflecting that by not change. Over doing it in the gym because you don’t see a number change only fuels the idea that if it’s not going down it’s bad. This can lead to unwanted long gym days... a quick burn out.. and then throwing in the towel all together. You can’t keep consistent if you have the WRONG mindset.

Instead.....
✨ try to not weigh yourself and notice how it impacts your attitude, maybe reflect on any strong urges “just to check”
✨ focus on the ways you enjoy movement and fueling, you’re more likely to eat in balance and move daily if you’re not pressure for the wrong reasons.
✨ allow yourself to throw away the scale if it’s only bringing you bad thoughts and bad days.

Im curious, do you use the scale? How have your attitudes changed when you stopped using it?

I know, you feel like you’d do anything to get get rid of those last few pounds. Because that seems like the other side of the rainbow 🌈 with a pot of golden happiness on the other end.

But, what would it take for you to be a smaller person? Are you feeling that grip on weight loss getting tighter and tighter? Do you feel like you’d feel like a failure if your weight increased?

I understand it. You’re struggling and you just want to know how you can fit in eating healthy and support your body but not lose your mind along with it.

You want a healthy metabolism.

You don’t want to feel like your weight is going to spiral if you let go of that tight grip.

You just want to be happy with your body. You just want that voice out of your head saying you’d be better if...

Instead of focusing on weight, I’m asking you focus on healthy principles. I want you to focus just finding an exercise you enjoy and will keep with consistently. Does it have to be extreme? No. I want you to focus on making foods you like taste good, and seeing ways you can add more veggies to your plate. At the same time be okay with not having a salad and having a burger. I want you to trust a donut 🍩 is just a donut and it’s not going to do anything bad to you!

Here are some reasons why I suggest you make a change... 🥘 🏃🏼‍♀️

If you’re frustrated with trying to perpetually lose those last amount of weight, and feel like you need to just buckle down... because just beyond those numbers is a magical spot of happiness.

You need to change your diet.

Because most women I talk to who are in this spot, or any of the spots listed above are actually doing things to wreck their goals and their health over all.

You are skipping meals-big no,no as it just delays and increase hunger leading to an eventual binge

You work out harder while trying to eat less and less calories-again, no! This doesn’t actually improve your chances of sustainable weight loss and only hinders your success in achieving that toned look so many are going for. You gotta eat. You gotta eat enough food and coupled with a right plan around your exercise for you. I help my clients do this.

You’re convinced it’s you or maybe your current diet plan so you google a new one (or Pinterest or scroll IG) and you tell yourself THIS one looks good, but you actually have no idea how it will apply. I know how it will apply for you. I help my clients find their food plan. I use you as my guide, not a cookie cutter approach.

If you feel stumped. Grab an application in my profile. Let’s see how I can help you along your journey!

Want to know how I January?! Keep reading...

January hits, and this used to be the time of year where I’d tell myself... it’s the year of losing weight, to get those “abs”, and I’d have no excuses. Just like many of you I was chasing something I thought was healthy. I was chasing something I thought meant if I achieved it I’d appreciate my body more. But it never worked.

But after ditching the diets and exercise games I finally found what I was looking for. See, when I started actually trying to be healthy and stopped trying to shrink my body in hopes I’d love it more... the game changed. When I started fueling better, I felt better about myself. That meant following these three simple, but sometimes challenging guides I followed.

1. I quit cheat days. I quite them! They’re Fired! I stopped telling myself I could only have treats on certain days. I realized that it had no impact on my body and it showed me just how when you stop forbidding foods you actually want them in balance. Not every single second of every day.

2. I took breaks in exercise. This was harrrrrd one for me. I grew up a multi sport athlete and finding my purpose outside of being active was hard. I started to implement more rest days and taking more days off. Not only did I perform better, but I enjoyed it so much more.

3. I stopped trying to make every meal low calorie. I shifted the focus from-what will be the least amount of food to keep me satisfied, to actually eating until satisfied. When you actually start eating till satisfaction you stop obsessing about food all day, you perform better, less fatigued, and have better health outcomes.

It wasn’t the snap of a finger. It was being dedicated to change, and being READY for it. These are just a few ways I help women get back their freedom around food. If you’re interested grab a spot on my waitlist and click the link in my profile ❤️

Ready for the challenge! Post a 👍🏻 if you’re going to avoid those diets and cleanses and detoxes come the new year!

Maybe it’s tempting. Maybe your ate more than your fullness over the last few weeks. Maybe you ate less fruits and veggies over the last few weeks.

Guess what, nothings going to happen. Guess what again, you’re body isn’t suddenly a completely different or less healthy body. Guess what again again, you aren’t going to live in the Christmas season year around so....

Stop worrying about needing to erase a temporary change in eating habits with an extreme and restrictive meal plan.

Instead, just find a way to increase those fruits and vegetables in a way that you enjoy. Maybe it’s a salad, maybe it’s a smoothie, or maybe it’s a few veggie snacks.

It doesn’t have to look extreme in order to be beneficial for your health! In fact, the extremes likely just deplete energy store, decrease lean muscle, and leave you feeling like crap.

So... I actually triple dog dare you. Don’t start that cleanse!

Very Merry Christmas to you all! Christmas was a bit weird this year...some family got Covid and some family had to cancel plans here. We did drive by caroling 🎤 and dropped off cinnamon rolls and presents. We went hiking and walking and baked. This a collage of not “IG worthy”. photos but it shows all the important stuff and the days I love the most.

Thanks to you all for being a bright spot for me in 2020! Your messages and kindness brought joy during uncertain times. ❤️ @ Liberty Lake

“I will just be super good in January!”

That thought that you’ve somehow done a detriment to your health because you might have had some holiday food. Maybe you exercised leased.

Whatever you’re temporary change in eating or exercise habits was, it does not need to be followed up with a restricting for dieting season!

It does not mean you have to reset and undo any “damage” that was done. In fact, it’s best you take steps forward today and now to help foster a healthy relationship with food and exercise. It’s those steps now, during this season, that will help you achieve your health goals.

A healthy relationship with food includes eating the foods you enjoy while also gentling encouraging nourishing in foods in the ways you enjoy. IE is not eat whatever you want just because you want. There is a lose structure within it, but it absolutely includes your favorite foods.

Exercise shouldn’t honor what your body wants and what you enjoy without having to focus on keeping the leanest physique or to keep weight off. It should include movement you enjoy and want to continually show up doing. Does it mean we exercise with out excuses? No. It means taking a break when you need. Does it mean sometimes working out when you don’t want? Sure. Because sometimes you and recognize your body and mind need movement even if it doesn’t sound the best.

In what ways are you choosing to honor your health this holiday season? What has worked out for you?

Hey 👋🏻 I need something from you. 🙏🏻

Okay but first, if you’re a new face around here my name is Nikki. I’m a dietitian and I started a blog about 4 years ago. But it’s actually turned into so much more and I’m helping women break away from chronic dieting to find food peace and body appreciation. Two things I struggled with for years. I struggle to be vulnerable and admit that, but at the same time it’s exactly what got me here. It’s how I have such a burning passion to help other women. I wouldn’t change a thing!

My goal with this social media page is to encourage women to find a way to walk away from dieting while still honoring their health. I want to help women get rid of the voice in their head that is tied to the “shoulds” and “shouldnts” of food that brings shame and guilt.

Right now, I’m working on a very fun project and I can’t WAIT to share. If you’re not following me or .fit1 then hit the follow button. Share with your friends. Because we have a fun surprise headed your way and I don’t want you to miss out!
