Stress is not just a mental exhaustion.
Stress affects sleep, appetite, digestion, inflammation, blood sugar, immune function, recovery, and the way the body tolerates treatment.

In , stress support is not โ€œextra.โ€ It is part of caring for the whole person. Cancer care is not only about fighting disease. It is also about supporting the body through one of the most physically and emotionally demanding seasons of life. That means paying attention to:
โœ”๏ธSleep
โœ”๏ธNutrition
โœ”๏ธNervous system regulation
โœ”๏ธMovement
โœ”๏ธEmotional support
โœ”๏ธInflammation
โœ”๏ธGut health
โœ”๏ธResilience

A new study published in ๐—–๐—ฎ๐—ป๐—ฐ๐—ฒ๐—ฟ ๐—–๐—ฒ๐—น๐—น is raising important questions about the connection between chronic stress, the gut microbiome, immune response, and the tumor environment.

Researchers found that chronic stress may disrupt the gut microbiome and trigger a biological chain reaction involving stress hormones, gut bacteria, bacteriophages, cancer-associated fibroblasts, and B cells which are immune cells that play an important role in anti-tumor immunity.

In preclinical models, chronic stress appeared to weaken the immune systemโ€™s ability to respond to tumors by changing the environment around the tumor itself.

To be clear:

This does ๐—ป๐—ผ๐˜ mean stress causes cancer.

This does ๐—ป๐—ผ๐˜ mean patients are responsible for their diagnosis. And this should never be used to blame someone for being stressed during one of the most stressful experiences of their life.

It is worth talking about:
The body, nervous system, gut, and the immune system being connected. This is why sleep, nutrition, and stress resilience matter.

Cancer care cannot only be about attacking the tumor. It also has to be about supporting the person living through treatment, recovery, and survivorship.

MedLogic Primary Care ๐—œ๐—ป๐˜๐—ฒ๐—ด๐—ฟ๐—ฎ๐˜๐—ถ๐˜ƒ๐—ฒ ๐—–๐—ฎ๐—ป๐—ฐ๐—ฒ๐—ฟ ๐—–๐—ฎ๐—ฟ๐—ฒ program run by Dr. Jennifer Ron adds meaningful value; not as a replacement for oncology, but as thoughtful support alongside it.

If chronic stress can influence immune function and the tumor environment, how seriously should we be treating stress support, sleep, nutrition, gut health, and emotional resilience during cancer care?

Set up a 15-min complimentary session with Dr. Jenn Ron to hear first-hand how she has dealt with her cancer diagnosis and is now driving the outcomes.

Not just:
โ€œWhat diagnosis fits these symptoms?โ€

But also:

Why is this happening?
What systems are out of balance?
What is being missed?
What can we support?
What can we prevent?
What does this person need to feel better, function better, and heal more fully?

Different lenses.
Shared mission.

To stop treating people like a collection of symptoms.

To stop pretending the body works in separate boxes.

To create care that is more personalized, more proactive, and more human.

Healing often starts when someone finally looks at the whole picture and that is where both Integrative and Functional Medicine shine.

Dr. Jennifer Plotkin Ron MD, FACEP, ABOIM recently completed advanced mistletoe therapy training through the National Centre for Integrative Medicine, further expanding the supportive therapies available to patients navigating cancer treatment, recovery, and survivorship.

Mistletoe therapy has been used for decades in integrative oncology, particularly in countries such as Germany and Switzerland, and is most often considered as an adjunct to conventional cancer care; not a replacement for it.

At ๐— ๐—ฒ๐—ฑ๐—Ÿ๐—ผ๐—ด๐—ถ๐—ฐ, that distinction matters.

Our goal is to provide thoughtful, evidence-informed, whole-person support that works alongside a patientโ€™s oncology team.

For many patients, the questions are not only about treatment outcomes. They are also about quality of life.

How can we support energy?
Sleep?
Appetite?
Treatment tolerance?
Inflammation?
Emotional resilience?
The bodyโ€™s ability to recover?

This additional training allows Dr. Jennifer Ron to bring even more depth, safety, and clinical perspective to personalized integrative cancer care plans.

Cancer care should be comprehensive.
It should be collaborative.
It should honor both the science and the person living through it.

We are grateful to continue expanding meaningful options for patients in the Chicagoland area who are seeking integrative support during one of the most difficult seasons of life.

Supplements should simplify your health; not turn into a grocery bag of duplicate bottles.

In Supplements: Part One: The Grocery Bag, Dr. Jennifer Plotkin Ron MD, FACEP, ABOIM breaks down why more is not always better, especially in supporting cancer care.

Her approach is simple:
look at the whole person, evaluate quality, avoid duplication, and focus on what actually supports the body.

In Medlogic Medicineโ€™s most recent blog, she shares the three foundational supplements she often considers with patients.

And yes, thereโ€™s also a chicken story.

Read the full blog to learn why supplement strategy should be personalized, simplified, and guided by someone who understands the bigger picture. Link to blog https://www.medlogicmd.com/post/if-i-could-only-recommend-three-supplements

Stay tuned for Part Two, where Dr. Jenn shares two common supplements she rarely recommends routinely during active cancer treatment.

You can have regular periods and still be in perimenopause.

Read that again.

Perimenopause does not always announce itself with skipped cycles or hot flashes.

Sometimes it looks like waking up at 3 AM every night.
Feeling anxious for no obvious reason.
Brain fog that makes you question yourself.
Heavier periods.
Low energy.
Weight changes.
More intense PMS.
Urinary urgency.
Lower libido.
Feeling like your body suddenly changed the rules.

And too often, women are told:

โ€œItโ€™s just stress.โ€
โ€œItโ€™s just aging.โ€
โ€œYour labs look normal.โ€
โ€œJust wait it out.โ€

No.

Perimenopause is common, but feeling dismissed should not be.

This transition can affect your hormones, sleep, metabolism, mood, pelvic floor, muscle mass, cardiovascular health, bone health, and long-term wellness.

The good news?

You are not powerless.

Nutrition matters.
Strength training matters.
Sleep matters.
Blood sugar balance matters.
Pelvic floor support matters.
Stress regulation matters.
The right medical guidance matters.

You do not need to suffer quietly or guess your way through this season.

Join Dr. Lauren Towle and Dr. Rachel Miller for an empowering perimenopause wellness webinar on July 17 at 12pm CST designed to help women understand what is happening in their bodies, what symptoms deserve attention, and what steps can help you feel stronger, clearer, and more confident.

It may be the beginning of finally understanding what your body has been trying to tell you.
