HURRICANE LOWELL | KAUAʻI COMMUNITY UPDATE

Lowell’s main impact period is underway.
Winds are continuing to increase across Kauaʻi this evening, and conditions may become more hazardous through tonight and into early Tuesday as Lowell makes its closest passage west of the island.
CURRENT CONDITIONS & ALERTS
• Hurricane Warning remains in effect for Kauaʻi and Niʻihau
• Flash flooding remains a concern after significant rainfall today
• Additional heavy rain bands are possible tonight
• Strong and potentially damaging wind gusts may continue through the overnight hours
• A Tornado Watch is in effect through early Tuesday morning
• Dangerous surf and coastal flooding remain possible, particularly along exposed shores
WHAT TO DO TONIGHT
☆If you are already in a sturdy structure outside a flood or storm-surge area, stay there.
☆Avoid unnecessary travel. Conditions can worsen quickly between rain bands, and fallen trees, debris, flooding, and power lines may make roads dangerous.
☆Stay away from beaches, coastal roads, streams, and flood-prone areas.
☆Keep emergency alerts turned on and phones charged.
☆Keep flashlights, shoes, medications, water, and essential supplies close by in case power is lost.
☆If a Tornado Warning is issued, move immediately to a small interior room away from windows and protect your head.
The weather may temporarily calm between bands. Do not assume that means the danger has passed.
Please check on neighbors when it can be done safely, remain calm, and allow emergency crews to keep the roads clear.
