HAIR, NAIL, URINE & SALIVA BIOENERGETIC TESTING

This service uses your samples in a Qest4 bioenergetic assessment, exploring frequency patterns within the system’s wellness framework.

Your bioenergetic frequency test includes:

• Nutritional support — vitamins, minerals, amino acids, and fatty acids.
• Hormone-related patterns — energetic categories associated with hormone balance and gland support.
• Detox support — exploration of potential priorities within the bioenergetic framework, including the system’s frequency references to mold, fungi, mycotoxins, heavy metals, chemicals, viruses, and bacteria. These references guide wellness discussion and do not confirm exposure, toxin levels, or infection.
• Food-related patterns — frequency categories labeled as food sensitivities.
• Organ and gland patterns — energetic references associated with stress, inflammation, and dysfunction.
• Diet and movement — categories relating to eating patterns and exercise for discussion alongside your preferences, abilities, and goals.
• And more!

You’ll collect your samples at home using the provided instructions and return your kit. I run the assessment separately, so you do not need to remain in the office during that process.

Your hormones matter, and there’s more to the story than just checking your hormone levels.

Your gut microbiome is part of that story! Certain gut bacteria help process estrogen, influencing how much is eliminated or recycled back into circulation. Those tiny organisms do much more than help with digestion!

Prebiotics nourish beneficial gut bacteria, while probiotics provide helpful live microorganisms. But probiotics aren’t all interchangeable, the specific species and strains matter! A probiotic intended for general digestive support doesn’t automatically offer the same benefits being studied for hormone related health.

The glands and signals behind hormone production matter, too. The hypothalamus and pituitary help direct hormone production, while the thyroid, adrenal glands, and ovaries each play important roles.

That’s why I like to consider the gut microbiome alongside the glands and communication systems involved in hormone regulation.

Hormone health deserves a whole-body conversation.

🧠 Your brain needs it. Your liver depends on it. But when was the last time you heard anyone talk about CHOLINE?

This overlooked essential nutrient plays important roles in memory, nerve communication, liver function, and methylation.

Here’s why it deserves attention. 👇

🧠 BRAIN HEALTH AND MEMORY

Your body uses choline to make acetylcholine—a messenger involved in memory, muscle control, and nerve communication.

In a Framingham Heart Study analysis following 3,224 adults for an average of 16 years, low dietary choline intake was significantly associated with a higher risk of developing dementia and Alzheimer’s disease, compared with moderate intake—even after adjustment for multiple other risk factors. This was observational evidence linking intake with risk.

LIVER FUNCTION AND FAT TRANSPORT

One of your liver’s most important roles is to metabolize everyday toxins.

Choline helps maintain liver-cell membranes and make phosphatidylcholine, which the liver needs to package and transport fat out. A true choline deficiency can cause fat accumulation and liver damage. Correcting that deficiency can reverse the liver changes it causes.

🧬 METHYLATION AND CELLULAR HEALTH

Your body converts some choline into betaine, which supplies methyl groups used in converting homocysteine back into methionine. This supports production of SAMe, an important methyl donor involved in normal gene regulation and metabolism.

Deficiency has measurable effects: in a controlled feeding study of 51 adults, a choline-deficient diet produced approximately twice as much DNA damage in circulating lymphocytes as the adequate-choline diet.

WHAT ABOUT CANCER RESEARCH?

A human case-control study found that higher dietary choline intake was associated with lower odds of primary liver cancer. Animal experiments also link diets deficient in choline and methionine with liver cancer development. These findings support the importance of adequate nutrition; they do not establish choline supplements as cancer prevention or treatment.

ARE YOU GETTING ENOUGH?

Most Americans consume less than the recommended adequate intake of choline.

Food sources include eggs—including the yolks—fish, poultry, beef, soybeans, and dairy. Your body makes some choline, but it still needs a supply from your diet.

➡️ We also carry choline in supplement form at Lima Naturopathic. If you’re wondering whether it could help you meet your nutritional needs, ask us about the option we carry.

SPMs, Immune Balance, and Autoimmune Disease⬇️

The journal Science Bulletin has recently published a review of research on specialized pro-resolving lipid mediators (SPMs) and autoimmune disease. As discussed in this review, sustained leukocyte activation is central to many autoimmune diseases, and while both specific and nonspecific immunosuppressants relieve symptoms by supporting a healthy inflammatory response, a wide range of side effects underscores the need for better therapies. A growing understanding of the important differences between the natural inhibition and resolution of inflammation has sparked significant interest in the potential SPMs offer with autoimmune conditions.

Briefly, SPMs are compounds derived from omega-6 and omega-3 fatty acids, including resolvins, protectins, and maresins (metabolites of DHA/EPA), as well as lipoxins and aspirin-derived lipoxins (metabolites of arachidonic acid), requiring metabolic steps catalyzed by lipoxygenases, cyclooxygenase-2, and other enzymes. Much of the action of SPMs is mediated by G protein-coupled receptors found on immune cells (leukocytes, macrophages, neutrophils, etc.), though they do interact with other receptor types, such as the aryl hydrocarbon receptor, cannabinoid receptor 1, and transient receptor potential channels, with many downstream effects on both innate and adaptive immune responses. This includes helping to lower proinflammatory cytokine secretion by dendritic cells, enhancing macrophage phagocytosis and autophagy, as well as promoting polarization to the M2 macrophage anti-inflammatory phenotype, regulating B cell hyperactivation, modulating Th1/Th17 and Treg equilibrium, and much more, with the cumulative effect of restoring homeostasis by actively promoting the natural resolution of inflammation. This recognition that inflammation resolves via an active process rather than a passive one is the breakthrough understanding that makes SPMs so promising.

The review in Science Bulletin provides a detailed discussion of common autoimmune conditions, including rheumatoid arthritis, multiple sclerosis, type 1 diabetes mellitus, etc., as well as animal models and human studies investigating the role of SPMs in these conditions. To date, most human studies have not been intervention trials but rather assessments of the potential use of SPMs as biomarkers in autoimmune diseases. For example, a small study found significantly lower levels of Resolvin D1 (RvD1) in people with systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE), suggesting a possible threshold with 80% sensitivity and 63.3% specificity for identifying SLE. Lower levels of RvD1 have also been found among people with Hashimoto’s thyroiditis, with an inverse correlation with anti-thyroid peroxidase antibody (TPOAb) titers, with similar findings for Resolvin E1 (RVE1) and anti-thyroglobulin antibodies (TgAb). RvD1 levels were also found to be decreased among people with neuromyelitis optica spectrum disorders (NMOSD) and negatively correlated with aquaporin-4 (AQP4) antibody titers, while leukotriene B4 (LTB4) levels were increased in cerebrospinal fluid.

Preclinical and experimental models suggest SPMs may be novel therapies for various autoimmune conditions, though human clinical trials demonstrating efficacy, determining dosage and administration, optimal SPM combinations, etc., are still lacking. However, their role as immunomodulators (rather than immunosuppressants) that promote the resolution of pathological compromised inflammatory responses makes SPMs distinct from existing therapies.

ANDROGRAPHIS AND CANCER
One plant compound. Multiple anti-cancer properties❗️❗️❗️

What caught my attention wasn’t just one finding. It was the range of cancer-related processes being studied—from triggering cancer-cell death to interfering with tumor blood-vessel formation and growth signals.

As I reviewed the studies on andrographolide, a major active compound in Andrographis paniculata, I found research involving breast cancer, leukemia, colorectal cancer, prostate cancer, liver cancer, and lymphoma, along with early human research in esophageal cancer.

Here are the findings that stood out to me.

➜ BREAST CANCER: INHIBITING TUMOR GROWTH❗

In one mouse study, isolated andrographolide produced 60.2% tumor-growth inhibition compared with controls at the highest dose tested. That measures inhibited growth relative to controls—not a 60.2% shrinkage of existing tumors.

➜ LEUKEMIA: DISRUPTING CELL-SURVIVAL PROCESSES❗

Laboratory studies have found effects on programmed cell death, fatty-acid production, iron uptake, and growth-related signaling. A 2025 T-cell leukemia study reported evidence of both apoptosis and ferroptosis—two different forms of cell death. Other work observed differentiation, or maturation, in acute promyelocytic leukemia cells.

➜ COLORECTAL CANCER: EXPLORING TREATMENT RESISTANCE AND IMMUNE ACTIVITY❗

In cells, mice, and miniature tumor models grown from patient tissue, andrographis enhanced the effects of the chemotherapy drug 5-FU. Separate mouse research found that andrographolide activated an immune danger-sensing pathway and increased several immune-cell populations within tumors.

➜ PROSTATE CANCER: INTERFERING WITH INFLAMMATORY GROWTH SIGNALS❗

Andrographolide reduced IL-6 and related signaling, inhibited cancer-cell growth, and activated programmed cell death in experimental models, including castration-resistant prostate cancer. Reduced tumor growth was also observed in mice.

➜ LIVER CANCER: INTERFERING WITH TUMOR BLOOD-VESSEL FORMATION❗

Laboratory and mouse experiments found that andrographolide disrupted VEGF-related signaling, reduced blood-vessel formation, and inhibited tumor growth.

➜ LYMPHOMA: ACTIVATING CANCER-CELL SELF-DESTRUCTION❗

Andrographolide triggered programmed cell death in lymphoma cell lines and cancer cells collected from patients. Normal lymphocytes were comparatively spared under the conditions tested.

➜ ESOPHAGEAL CANCER: EARLY HUMAN RESEARCH❗

A small study involving 30 people with advanced esophageal cancer reported longer survival among those who completed andrographis treatment. However, comparing people who completed treatment with those who did not cannot establish that the herb caused the survival difference.

What stands out is the range of processes being studied: cancer-cell death, growth signaling, tumor blood supply, immune activity, and treatment resistance.

I’ll share the studies in the comments for anyone who wants to explore the research.

MIGRAINES?

Do you—or does someone you know—suffer from migraines?

What if I told you that, in a clinical trial, GINGER performed just as well as a prescription migraine medication?

I’ve even had A LIST of clients tell me that ginger worked BETTER for them personally.

Yes—ginger. 🫚

In a randomized clinical trial involving 100 people with migraines, researchers compared 250 mg of ginger with 50 mg of sumatriptan, a commonly prescribed migraine medication.

After two hours, both groups experienced a similar reduction in migraine severity—but side effects were reported less frequently in the ginger group.

Ginger contains powerful natural compounds called gingerols and shogaols, which may influence inflammation, prostaglandins, pain signaling, nausea, and other pathways involved in a migraine attack.

Additional clinical research has also found that ginger may improve migraine pain within two hours while helping reduce migraine-related nausea and vomiting. ⬇️🫚⬇️🫚⬇️🫚
