We've known for a long time about the damaging effects of food additives on our gut microbiome. This is a neat study that shows how some microbiome profiles put you at risk for severe gut inflammation from the emulsifier carboxymethylcellulose (CMC).
Reminder to avoid emulsifiers like carrageenan and CMC esp if you have gut symptoms. These are commonly used as thickeners in dairy and processed meats but are also used to create intestinal inflammation in mice for studies.

A simple stool test may reveal why some people are sensitive to food emulsifiers such as CMC, offering insights into IBD risk and potential dietary solutions.
