🚨 IMPORTANT: Target Baby Wipes Recall 🚨
We've been getting calls about the recent FDA recall of certain Target-brand baby wipes (Fragrance Free and Fresh Cucumber Scented) due to potential bacterial contamination (Burkholderia cepacia). Here's what you need to know:
🛑 STOP USING THEM
If you have these wipes at home, stop using them immediately and check the FDA recall notice for specific lot numbers. You can return them to Target for a refund.
👶 WHAT TO WATCH FOR
While the risk of serious infection in healthy babies is very low, contact our office if your child develops any of the following after using these wipes:
-Skin rash, redness, or irritation in the diaper area that isn't improving or is getting worse
-Unusual skin sores, pus, or blisters
-Fever
-Fussiness or poor feeding that is new or unusual
-Any signs of illness that concern you
⚠️ WHO IS AT HIGHER RISK?
Babies who are premature, have weakened immune systems, have open wounds or broken skin, or have cystic fibrosis may be more vulnerable to this type of bacteria. If your child falls into any of these categories and has been using the recalled wipes, please call our office so we can discuss next steps.
✅ THE REASSURING NEWS
For most healthy babies, this type of bacteria is unlikely to cause serious illness from skin contact alone. Many families may have used these wipes without any problems. If your baby is acting normally and has no skin concerns, no special testing or treatment is needed but it's always okay to call us if you're worried.
📞 WHEN TO CALL US
You do NOT need to schedule a visit just because you used the recalled wipes. DO call if your child has any of the symptoms listed above or if you have specific concerns about your baby's health.
💙 We're here for you. When in doubt, reach out!
Target is voluntarily recalling Up & Up Fragrance Free and Up & Up Fresh Cucumber Scented Baby Wipes following customer complaints of product discoloration, and FDA testing that identified the presence of Burkholderia cepacia complex and Burkholderia gladioli in product samples.
